``OSITION SUMMARY

The position of Donor Family Services Coordinators one of significant responsibility. The Donor Family Services Coordinator will offer the families of potential donors the opportunity for their loved one to be a donor and will develop and maintain programming and support services to assist the families of organ and tissue donors. They will provide excellent customer service to all donor families and oversee the aftercare support program. He/she works under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Operations and with all CORE employees; ultimate supervisory responsibility is by the President/CEO

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Donor Family Services Coordinator for the Center for Organ Recovery & Education is responsible for offering the opportunity to donate to families, providing emotional support to the families during the donation process, and contacting donor families after the death of a loved one to provide follow-up services as needed. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Respond for on-site Family Support situations and work with families to offer the opportunity for donation or uphold their loved one’s decision to donate. Communicate with management regarding these interactions and provide bereavement and grief counseling if requested. He/she will serve as a resource for donor families and respond to requests for information or assistance or refer families to community organizations.

Develop and administer Donor Family organizational policies and develop Donor Family programs. He/she will facilitate direct communication, if agreed to, between donor and recipient families. He/She will document, track and report to management on consistency of programs and adherence by staff to Donor Family services business rules and guidelines. Make phone calls to donor families and send annual notes to donor and recipient families.

Ensure Donor Family correspondence, communications and materials are being distributed according to business rules and guidelines. Ensure resources ordered with budgetary guidelines.

Participate in securing donor families for media and offering opportunities for families to volunteer. Work with Community Outreach to coordinate Donor Remembrance Ceremonies. Coordinate and lead at educational/support events for donor families.

Establish and maintain computer databases and reports. Advocate and be resource for staff and general public in regard to Donor Family issues.

Participate actively in AOPO Donor Family Services Council and other professional organizations.

The Incumbent for the position of Donor Family Services Coordinator requires that the individual have a BA/BS in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Nursing or related field or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience. Counseling background and experience working with death and bereavement issues and families is desirable. He/she must have the ability to take call and create Donor Family programs. Be available to travel, have a valid PA motor vehicle license, and be able to lift / pull / push packages up to 30 lbs. Travel will regularly be within 2 hours of the CORE office and occasionally further for regional and national meetings or conferences. Must be proficient in Microsoft office, including word and Excel. He/she must have the ability to learn and understand medical terminology, call and answer phones and be proficient in English. He/she must be able to cope with stress, autonomy, and assume responsibility for one’s own actions. He/she must be a dedicated professional with sound judgment and must demonstrate a professional commitment to donation and CORE’s ability to achieve its mission.

DEGREE OF JOB DIFFICULTY

The degree of job difficulty for the Donor Family Services Coordinator falls into the significant range. Inadvertent errors or mistakes could result in the death of a transplant recipient. Misinformation to families, healthcare professionals or the public in general could have an adverse effect on the donation process. Personal development is essential to keep abreast of the current trends in organ/tissue donation and transplantation. Maintaining good relationships and correspondence between donor families, recipients, and appropriate organizations is essential in the donation process.
