Job Summary
The Thrift Shop Donation Receiving Specialist serves as the face of the Thrift Shop for patrons who are providing merchandise for donation. Operates the complete spectrum of donation intake to include greeting the donor, assisting in unloading donations, providing a receipt and highly skilled in customer service. Works in accordance with the Animal Humane New Mexico’s directions, goals, values, policies, and procedures. Imperative that the Donation Receiver Specialist has a positive, outgoing personality that is welcoming and exudes the highest level of customer service. Additional duties would include initial presorting of items for further processing and being an integral part of the Thrift Shop Team. Performs other duties as assigned by the Thrift Shop Manager as necessary.
Specific Duties
- Welcome donors in a timely manner in a way that they feel confident that Animal Humane Thrift Shop appreciates them and understands their value.
- Handle the receiving and donation process with the utmost respect and care including, greeting the donor, assisting in unloading donations, sharing the Animal Humane mission, and issuing a receipt.
- Through the highest level of customer service and hospitality, plants a seed for repeated business and donations to Animal Humane Thrift Shop with every donor.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized reception area, to include the parking lot.
- Adhere to and implement daily, all employee policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Animal Humane Mission Statement.
- Communicate, daily, to the Thrift Shop Manager and Processing Assistant Manager any necessary information that relates to their respective departments.
- Work with and effectively communicate with the Animal Humane Thrift staff, including the processing and retail team.
- A team player who communicates and works well with fellow employees and volunteers, providing a healthy and productive work environment.
Job Conditions
Work is performed under standard retail store conditions.

· Computer skills to include general typing skills.
· Ability to read and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
· Knowledge of antiques, collectibles, and interior design is helpful.
· Retail sales experience is desired.
Education
· Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
· Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally in the English language.
· Ability to speak Spanish is helpful.
Other Qualifications:
· Flexible working schedule including days, evenings, and weekends or long shifts if needed.
· Must be able to pass a background check.
