Position Summary:

The Donation Center Sorter is responsible for receiving donations at Wheeler Missions Donation Center (DC) and sorting, pricing, organizing, and inspecting all items. They will provide excellent customer service to Wheelers donors and show care and respect to all donations received.

 

Wheeler Mission is a privately funded 501 (c) 3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry whose designated purpose is religious. We are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. Qualifications:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.

  1. Must possess a sincere love for the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to see individuals come to a personal relationship with their Lord and grow in Him.
  2. Must agree to the mission philosophy, policies and vision statement of WM, and view this as a team ministry with a servant's heart. Must be willing to sign and abide with the statement of Faith.
  3. Must interact professionally with guests, volunteers, and the general public and be able to prioritize work activities, use time wisely and develop realistic action plans.
  4. Must be dependable, consistently at work on time, willing to work overtime, when required and follow instructions.

 

Essential Requirements:

  1. The DC Sorters will greet customers for donation drop off and help them unload donations, provide instructions for tax forms, and provide other service to the donors as needed.
  2. DC Sorters are responsible for inspecting, sorting, handing, pricing, and labeling donations for sell at Wheeler Missions Thrift Store.
  3. The DC Sorters must be able to operate a pallet jack or forklift to move donations around the warehouse.
  4. The DC Sorters must work effectively in a team environment of coworkers and volunteer groups.
  5. The DC Sorters will follow instruction given by managers and may perform other duties related to maintaining a safe and organized warehouse as assigned.

 

Work Environment:

The Donation Center Sorters work out of Wheeler Missions DC Warehouse. The warehouse may expose workers to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dust, and dirt.

 

Physical Demands:

  1. Frequent holding and grasping of donated objects with hands. Must be able to transport these objects when loading and unloading donations.
  2. Frequently required to lift up to 20 pounds to move donations effectively around the warehouse.
  3. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, stoop, bend, twist, and perform other motions requiring strength and endurance when performing manual labor indoors or outdoors.

The DC Sorters may be required to perform cashier functions at the Wheeler Mission Thrift Store as needed.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or GED

 

Background Investigation and Drug Testing:

  1. After a conditional offer of employment is made, the individual must pass a background investigation.
  2. Wheeler Mission Ministries has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

 

Statement of Conflict of Interest/Confidentiality

This position requires both a conflict of interest statement and a confidentiality statement.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will occasionally supervise groups of volunteers at the Donation Center.

 

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time 28-hour per week position. Hours are 9:30am through 2:30pm Monday through Friday.

 

Travel:

No travel is required for this position.
