JOB TITLE: Shelter Advocate
Provides direct trauma-informed crisis intervention and stabilization services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, stalking or trafficking. Assists shelter residents and their children with basic needs, provides and arranges transportation and makes referrals for additional support services. Covers weekend and evening shifts as needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides trauma-informed crisis intervention to survivors.
- Receives and process requests and provides transportation services.
- Provide information and referral; document services and referrals provided
- Advocate for and assist victims in making contact with agencies.
- Rotating shift answering Helpline: victims support, crisis intervention, conduct intake.
- Complete confidential campus safety checks, completes maintenance requests.
- Provides emotional support, safety planning and basic needs.
- Completes shift reports and program data reports
- Ensures basic needs, stocks and maintains supplies.
- Adherence to a strict confidentiality policy
- Actively contribute to a positive team environment to ensure collaboration required for high quality services to victims and effective working relationships.
PREPARATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.
- 2 years of experience working in crisis intervention preferred.
- Extensive training will be provided.
- Enjoy working independently as part of a close knit team
- Strong organizational, computer and internet skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Successful completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history review
- Early evening and flexible weekend hours.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable driving record and proof of insurance.
