ROLE
We need an experienced Paralegal / Legal Assistant I for the Department of Justice (DOJ) National Security Division (NSD). The mission of the National Security Division is to protect the United States from threats to our national security by pursuing justice through the law. . The Division proactively protects national assets by assessing, mitigating, and preventing national security and law enforcement risks before they materialize. Your role as a Paralegal for the NSD will be to work with Paralegal services and a variety of legal assistance duties to management, attorneys, investigative, case and litigation teams. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary custodian of case materials, including grand jury subpoena and search warrant returns
- Manage case files, organize evidence, and investigative materials,
- Conduct searches, accessing and reviewing case data using eLitigation and data management software
- Manage the flow of documents and other investigative, litigation or case-related materials
- Monitor public inboxes and interagency data repositories
- Track agreements and related deliverables
- Provide support to attorneys performing review, compliance, and oversight activities
- Upload, organize, filter, review, and transfer or produce documents and electronically stored information
- Assist with grand jury coordination
- Conduct internet and other open-source research
- Perform document review using case management systems, records systems, and eDiscovery platforms
- Assist with preparations for court by organizing and preparing exhibits, attachments, binders, indexes, etc.
- Operate trial software, assist with management of witnesses, and perform administrative tasks
- Assist with research, writing, and related tasks
- Conduct cite-checking for case and court filings and legal memoranda
- Proofread and format complex and various legal documents
- Prepare various draft compliance and enforcement documentation and legal action memoranda
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Related experience working with a federal or state legal entity or private law firm
- Highly organized, demonstrate attention to detail, and technologically savvy
- Possess strong analytical skills, and demonstrate ability to work in teams
REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
- Four- year Bachelor’s Degree (recent graduates preferred)
