Job Summary:
In this critical role, you will lead a dynamic team responsible for optimizing in-store space allocation, creating visually appealing planograms, and maximizing sales per square foot. Your expertise in merchandising, planning, leadership, and project management will be pivotal in elevating our retail spaces to new heights of efficiency and profitability. Duties and Responsibilities:
Space Optimization and Category Management:
• Lead and oversee a team responsible for space planning, Category Management, and planogram development.
• Develop and execute strategies to optimize in-store space allocation, ensuring efficient product placement and maximizing sales per square foot.
• Collaborate closely with merchant planning and buying teams to align space allocation with product assortment and sales goals.
• Evaluate sales data, customer traffic patterns, and product performance to make informed decisions regarding space allocation and planogram development.
• Continuously monitor category performance, make adjustments as needed, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Implement best practices in Category Management and space optimization, drawing inspiration from industry leaders like Target, Walmart, and Tesco.
Planogram Development & Merchandising:
• Spearhead the creation of visually appealing and customer-friendly planograms (POGs) that enhance the shopping experience and drive sales.
• Utilize a blend of art and science to design planograms that reflect customer preferences, market trends, and brand positioning.
• Collaborate with store planning teams to ensure planograms are executed accurately in physical stores.
• Innovate and experiment with creative display solutions to attract and engage customers.
• Leverage customer feedback and data-driven insights to refine planograms and space layouts.
Leadership and Talent Development:
• Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Provide mentorship and development opportunities to team members, nurturing their skills and expertise.
• Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and identify opportunities for skill enhancement.
• Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team, promoting a welcoming and inclusive work environment.
Strategic Development and Execution:
• Develop and execute strategic plans to enhance space utilization, Category Management, and planogram effectiveness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including financial analytics, to align space strategies with overall business goals.
• Drive initiatives to elevate the in-store shopping experience, focusing on visual merchandising, category relevance, and customer engagement.
• Monitor industry trends and competitor strategies to ensure Navy Exchange remains at the forefront of retail excellence.
Project Management:
• Lead and oversee projects related to space optimization, planogram development, and store layout enhancements.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure project success, on-time delivery, and cost-effective execution.
• Utilize project management best practices to manage resources, budgets, and timelines effectively.
Team Collaboration:
• Work closely with the field organizations to gather feedback, understand local market dynamics, and tailor space and category strategies to regional preferences.
• Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including merchant teams, to align space allocation with product assortment and sales objectives.
• Collaborate with vendor partners to explore co-merchandising opportunities and enhance the shopping experience.
Budget Oversight:
• Collaborate with Finance to effectively manage a budget for space and Category Management initiatives.
A total of 9 years of experience consisting of the following:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years of general experience gained in administrative, professional technical, or other responsible work, which enabled the applicant to gain knowledge of retail and supply chain processes; demonstrated skill in dealing with operating personnel and supervisory responsibilities; skill in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships; ability to exercise mature judgment.
OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
1 year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4 years bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience.
AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 6 years of progressively responsible substantive experience, which provided background in retail merchandising, Category Management, space optimization, inventory / financial planning, and merchandising strategy, with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing a team.
Experience in a large national or international retail organization is preferred.
