Job Summary and QualificationsThe Manager provides support to the coding function of the Division affiliated surgery centers primarily through organizing the development and distribution of coding content, conducting training and education, and being a resource for coding-related inquiries. This position promotes the Division’s efforts for accurate and consistent coding, collaborating with multiple levels of management and key stakeholders across the HCA enterprise – Operations, Internal Audit, Regulatory Support and Ethics and Compliance departments.
This position is important to the Division’s continuing excellence in providing high quality health care as well as ensuring the compliant reporting of services to payers.
What you will do:
- Lead the development and deployment/presentation of coding education and training for coders within the Surgery Ventures Group (SVG)
- Provide coding guidance in accordance with the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting developed by the cooperating parties and HCA policies
- Promote coding documentation practices which contribute to the accuracy, integrity, and quality of patient data
- Review coding and billing audit outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement and assist in evaluating effective action plans
- Assist ASC and Divisional managers in evaluating the coding and billing impact of government and commercial payer contracts
- Develop processes and procedures that ensure the SVG maximizes performance with and meets compliance requirements for government payer in collaboration with Divisional/Corporate leaders
- Assist with other regulatory matters affecting ASCs including clinical documentation, government billing and licensure requirements
- Assist centers in their payment appeal efforts with payers
- Perform chart reviews on newly hired coders to assess their accuracy of procedural and diagnostic coding
- Conduct due diligence audits on potential ASC acquisitions to assess the integrity of coding function
- Assist in the maintenance of the SVG’s database content of CMS-issued LCDs/NCDs
- Evaluate the utilization and performance of existing external coding vendors as well as prospective vendors to maximize cost-benefit solutions for individual ASCs and the Division as a whole
- Participate in internal compliance process reviews of ASCs
- Participate in relationship building and ongoing collaboration with division, market and center operational leadership and support teams
- Participate, when required, in work groups, committees, and projects relating to coding and billing initiatives
- Manage multiple on‐going projects and preparation of presentations of findings and recommendations
- Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will need:
- Bachelors Health Information Management-preferred
- 2+ years experience in relevant role is required
- 2+ years surgical CPT® coding experience is required
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)ORRegistered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred
- Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA is required
