Location: Cleveland, OH

Type: Full-time/ Exempt

Wage: $55,000 to $65,000 a year

Primary Objectives of Position:

The Manager, Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) and Community Engagement focuses on advancing community awareness and engagement with (DWFS) DBA OMJ|CC. The Manager is responsible for all activities related to the creation and sustainability of DEI and Community Engagement at (DWFS) DBA OMJ|CC. The Manager will implement policies, practices, and training methods to increase the agency's ability to provide culturally competent and proficient services to a diverse group of colleagues and clients, while cultivating an environment that encourages collaboration, flexibility, and fairness to enable all colleagues and clients to contribute to their fullest potential. The Manager will also work to identify unserved/underserved areas in Cleveland/Cuyahoga County by strengthening outreach activities with proven strategies to raise awareness about (DWFS) DBA OMJ|CC programs/services.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Adopt and promote a proactive view of diversity, which is designed to promote institutional equity, valuing diversity, and driving inclusive behaviors throughout the agency and in the community and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
  • Champion awareness, understanding, allyship, and advocacy for anti-racism, social justice, and advancement of underrepresented groups.
  • Collaborate with agency's leadership to develop and integrate DEI management goals and strategies into all business and planning processes and practices.
  • Translate strategy into specific and measurable actions; Create and implement regular reporting and metrics as needed/requested by chain of command and/or community partners.
  • Responsible for outreach efforts both internal and external to the agency, representing (DWFS) DBA OMJ|CC in a professional manner.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive community outreach plan designed to educate, engage, and empower community partners in the pursuit of diverse and inclusive recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Engage in external relationship management with key community partners; Assist with establishing and maintaining a meaningful diversity process.
  • Act as the contact person for issues/concerns related to DEI initiatives; Involves relevant parties as needed/directed.
  • Maintaining a local presence and participating in community activities; Serve as advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the community and throughout the State.
  • Develop tracking/evaluation strategies to determine outcome-based success; Clearly communicate objectives, strategy, and expectations.
  • Supervise Community Outreach staff; Coordinate and manage Community Outreach Staff Calendar for Community Engagements and site visits.
  • Finds ways to demonstrate the positive change occurring in the Ohio Means Jobs organization and value add to the Greater Cleveland Community.
  • Create and encourage opportunities for community members to interact, exchange ideas, listen to concerns, provide input to help inform decision-making, and grow productive relationships.
  • Works collaboratively to ensure messaging and branding is consistent, reliable, transparent, and in the voice of community members.
  • Coaches and supports Ohio Means Jobs stakeholders to be innovative and adaptive in providing culturally competent programs/services and improves public outreach by providing support and serving as a resource to County programs and agencies that deliver outreach services to underserved and vulnerable populations.
  • Represents Ohio Means Jobs as a member of community diversity collaborations; develops and nurtures efforts to build external relationships with community partners and increase community connections, opportunities for collaboration and public outreach; and initiates and participates in community conversations about equity issues.
  • Leads initiatives and prepares and presents a variety of written and verbal reports and other communication/messaging on district and department programs and initiatives.
  • Hires and supervises professional and administrative staff to provide quality service to the community and district staff; prepares performance evaluations; recommends and administers progressive discipline; conducts and/or facilitates staff training and development programs; and promotes cooperative team efforts among staff and with other departments.
  • Establishes and reinforces the district's goals and accountability metrics, including contractor diversity and Local Economically Disadvantaged Enterprise (LEDE) initiatives. This may include actively performing focused outreach and recruitment efforts, working closely with the district's Office of Human Resources to attract, develop, and retain highly competent and service-oriented employees, and developing and maintaining positive business relationships with individuals, organizations, and Community groups who partner on issues of workforce diversity to increase diverse applicant pools.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Physical requirements include carrying/lifting up to 5 pounds, frequently; up to 10 pounds, regularly; and up to 25 pounds, occasionally. Visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to drive an automobile and operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment; subject to carrying, lifting, twisting and reaching to perform essential job functions. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with occasional travel to other locations. We are a Drug Free Work Environment.

Qualifications:

Education: A minimum of bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business, Human Resources, or related degree preferred.

Experience/Skills: management experience preferred, demonstrated experience with strategic DEI methodologies and related planning, execution, and measurement of effectiveness. Solid project management skills: Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty in a dynamic environment. Excellent writing and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills; Willingness and capacity to conduct presentations at all levels of the agency and within the community. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
