The Role:
The incumbent is responsible for helping guests rent and return activities equipment, give safety briefings for each activity, maintain, and clean all equipment, and provide guests with information about key locations to visit and a brief history of Catalina Island Company.
Responsibilities:
The Dive & Recreation Attendant is responsible for:
Shows up to work on time with a clean uniform and good hygiene.
Check the calendar for reservations every morning.
Answer incoming phone calls and provide guests with information about our rental policies, rates, and key areas of interest to visit.
Maintaining a clean and orderly work area and ensuring tools and equipment are well maintained and in sufficient supply.
Promote and ensure a safe working environment.
Washing and drying all kayak, snorkel, and dive equipment daily upon each return.
Keeping abreast of current dive and activities equipment, retail products, trends, and technologies.
Keep a record of the condition of rental equipment, letting supervisors know when it needs to be replaced or taken out of inventory.
Assist in performing monthly inventory counts of retail and rental products.
Liaising with the Visitor Services Department to ensure seamless guest experiences.
Within 30 days of hire: complete the Fill Station Operator Certification for filling scuba cylinders with compressed gas.
Follow weather conditions and report to supervisor and guests. Cater safety briefings around the weather forecast.
Maintain, wash and grease mountain bikes. Change tire tubes, etc.
Operate and maintain rental boat fleet. Washing minimum once per week and keeping record of engine condition.
Displaying warmth, caring and genuine enthusiasm when dealing with guests and internal customers.
Ensuring land and sea activities safety procedures are always adhered to.
Addressing and resolving guest problems and complaints and keeping management well informed.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Able to work hard and have a good work ethic
- Able to lift heavy objects (80 lbs. e.g. scuba tanks, kayaks)
- Computer skills are required
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Able to work in a team environment
- Cash register and customer service experience
- Basic understanding of boat handling and knowledge is a plus
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public
- Must be able to stand, walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, push and pull on a regular basis.
- Must have full range of overhead motions and full hand dexterity.
- Requires visual acuity and the ability to hear clearly to communicate with managers, coworkers and guests
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the dive industry and PADI certification
- English/Spanish bilingual language skills
- CPR/First Aid Certified
