Job Summary
The District Veterinary Director is responsible for the leadership and management of a portfolio of dynamic veterinary centers, as a leader, manager, and as a clinical veterinarian. Your role is to partner with your District Director to ensure our veterinary centers provide outstanding medical care, exceptional customer service, and business performance within our connected care ecosystem.
Responsibilities & Tasks
• Live & model the mission, vision, culture of Destination Pet within yourself and your team.
• Create a culture of integrated, personalized, connected pet care experience and ensure center teams understand our strategic vision.
• Drive district performance to deliver outstanding medical care & customer service that focuses on integrated, personalized and connected pet health care with efficient and productive teams.
• Drive a successful and growing Medical Director and Associate Veterinarian team through the support of talent acquisition programs such as recruiting, hiring, and referrals. Ensure the delivery of exceptional onboarding and mentorship experience. Promote engagement, workplace satisfaction, and retention of Veterinary Teams.
• Develop productive relationships with veterinary medical colleges to meet the recruiting needs for the practice, partnering with our recruiting team & university liaisons.
• Actively participate in national, state & local veterinary associations.
• Partners with District Director to co-facilitate regular meetings with the district center leadership teams to discuss performance and strategic initiatives.
• Implement a one-on-one cadence with assigned center leadership for individual growth plans and management development opportunities.
• Conducts monthly center visits at a minimum; or more often as needed.
• Partners with District Director & center leaders to manage effective doctor scheduling and ensure center leaders provide effective scheduling of trained and developed support staff to meet the needs of clients, pets, and business needs.
• Develop and deliver performance plans to meet center budgets and doctor production requirements, in partnership with District Directors.
• Analyzes and utilizes financial reports including profit and loss statements, doctor production reports, and KPI reports for each center location; review with center leadership for understanding, celebrating achievements, and identifying revenue growth opportunities.
• Resolve all client and staff complaints not resolved at a center level.
• Supports and promotes marketing strategies of Destination Pet programs and services in community; works to enhance Destination Pet community standing and brand reputation.
• Partners with Service Center support teams to ensure overall success of company programs and initiatives at center and district level.
• Partner with District Director & center leaders to ensure care delivered in our centers meets industry, regulatory, AAHA, Fear Free & Destination Pet standards.
• Partner with District Director & Center Leaders to ensure DEA, OSHA and radiation safety & compliance.
• Works with Destination Pet Human Resources and Safety Teams to ensure compliance with federal and local labor laws: EEOC, ADA, Fair Labor Practices, and HAZMAT and company policies.
• In partnership with Service Center teams and center leadership, monitor and assist with emergency/crisis situations; review incident reporting forms with Medical Director and Practice Manager to provide support, guidance, and corrective or preventative actions as required.
Experience, Training, Education
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or equivalent degree is required.
• Three years of clinical veterinary experience are required.
• Two years of hospital leadership experience are required.
• Two years of veterinary multi-location management experience preferred.
• Active, valid veterinary license in at least one state of responsibility, DEA license & USDA Accreditation are required.
• May be required to attain additional state licenses.
Additional Duties
The role of District Veterinary Director serves as both clinical veterinarian and medical leader within an assigned District. Additional duties will include regularly scheduled days in clinic to provide clinical, surgical, and/or specialty services. The role of DVD requires approximately 75% travel to veterinary centers to perform clinical, administrative, operational, and leadership responsibilities; occasional travel out of state to attend meetings and trainings will occur as scheduled.
