Cobb EMC is currently recruiting for a Distribution Communications Technicianto install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and operate Distribution Communications system equipment, including Land Mobile Radio, microwave, and SCADA data communication under direct supervision. Assist with communications related contracts, gain knowledge of FCC compliance, and research innovative communications technology solutions. Assist in correct installation and performance of outside contractors tasked with installation of towers, monopoles, antennas, and other communication equipment.

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Vocational/technical school diploma or equivalent in electronics or a related field or equivalent work experience
Minimum 1-year experience installing and troubleshooting communication system equipment, such as Land Mobile Radio, microwave, and SCADA data communication, ranging from 37.8 Mhz to 3.6 Ghz.
Knowledge of fiber optics, category 3/5 cabling (with color code).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Proficiency with personal computers, including operating systems and spreadsheet and database software.
Previous experience with computer networks.
Previous experience with land mobile radio equipment and installations
Previous experience with SCADA data communications systems
SKILLS:
Adaptability to changing technical conditions, work environment, and equipment types.
Ability to analyze, isolate, and resolve problems and to communicate problems and solutions.
Good interpersonal skills.

- Perform periodic preventive maintenance checks on the land mobile radio system per applicable maintenance manuals.
- Assist in designing, installation, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and operating the wireless communication system and peripheral equipment that supports all distribution automation efforts.
- Assist in producing and maintaining records and drawings for the Distribution Communications system.
- Make recommendations for improvements to the Distribution Communications system.
- Perform periodic preventive maintenance checks on the Distribution Communications equipment per applicable maintenance manuals.
- Assist in designing, installation, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and operating field equipment, antenna systems and backup power systems used to support AMI communication efforts.
- Assist in producing and maintaining records and drawings for the AMI communication system located in substations and other remote sites.
- Perform periodic preventive maintenance checks on AMI communication system per applicable maintenance manuals.
- Learn the design and installation of fiber optic cable in substations, field devices, and on campus.
- Assist in producing and maintaining records and drawings for the location of fiber optic cable used for communication systems.
- Assist with communications related contracts.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of FCC rules and regulations relating to Cobb EMC's communications infrastructure, and the latest technologies and trends
- Assist to ensure a comprehensive inventory of Cobb EMC communication assets, licenses, maintenance intervals, and engineering data such as tower and antenna heights, and configurations.
- Assist in verifying correct performance of outside contractors tasked with installation of towers, monopoles, antennas, and other communication equipment.
- Assist Manager of Apparatus, Supervisor of Metering Services & Testing, Coordinator of Distribution Communications, and Distribution Communications Specialists with yearly budget preparation.
