Hillel at Virginia Tech is seeking to hire a part-time 12 hr/week position to assist in the Kitchen each week of the school year.
This position will provide a unique opportunity to see and participate in the operations of the New River Valley's only commercial Kosher kitchen. Roughly 12 hours a week will be dedicated to dishwashing and cleaning responsibilities, with an opportunity to branch into additional hours as an apprentice prep/production cook. This position will work directly with Head Chef Greg Herring, gleaning from his vast background in fine dining, kosher cooking, farm to table sourcing, high end catering, whole animal butchery and more.
Responsibilities
- Dishwashing, spraying off dishes and operating a commercial dishwasher, operating a standard 3-sink sanitizing station
- Sweeping, mopping, and cleaning drains
- Additional deep-clean tasks as assigned
- Potential to add production cooking tasks as time permits
Requirements
- This position requires the ability to stand for several hours at a time, bend at the waist repeatedly, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and lift up to 20 lbs overhead

General Qualifications
- Some commercial kitchen/food handling experience is preferred but not required.
- Attention to detail, organization, and excellent attendance is a must
- Ability to work Fridays 1-9PM and Saturday late night shifts or Sunday mornings.
