Job Summary

Plan, organize, manage, and direct research, shared-user, and/or core facilities and associated equipment, tools and support systems for multiple laboratories, typically requiring specialized technical expertise. Formulate and implement policy, educate internal and external users on operation of tools and safety, direct tool/equipment maintenance, and oversee major purchases and capital equipment installation. Strategize technical direction and capability needs with key faculty and unit executive leadership. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Faculty, staff, students, external users, equipment manufacturers, vendors, research sponsors, other universities. This position typically will advise and counsel: Faculty, staff, students, external users, research sponsors, other universities. This position will supervise: Assigned staff.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Direct the operation of the shared-user laboratories, core facilities and associated equipment, tools and support systems, budgets, and operations including health, safety and emergency response.
Job Duty 2 -
Subject-matter expert for technical matters; serve as primary interface and liaison with internal and external users and faculty.
Job Duty 3 -
Strategic planning of use and future needs of laboratories: Identify technical gaps in facilities capabilities and coordinate resolution with faculty, equipment manufacturers, and administration.
Job Duty 4 -
Lead and direct building infrastructure support and define and coordinate laboratory construction/renovation as well as building infrastructure support projects together with relevant campus units and external stakeholders.
Job Duty 5 -
Direct the, development, design, and implementation of projects. Manage the sourcing, procurement, and installation and maintenance of equipment.
Job Duty 6 -
Ensures efficient staffing of assigned facilities including setup, operation, maintenance, and billing support.
Job Duty 7 -
Coordinate the operation of core facility support systems.
Job Duty 8 -
Supervise staff by setting priorities, managing workflow, training, budgeting, scheduling, and maintenance; manage relationships with external stakeholders.
Job Duty 9 -
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Required Qualifications
Georgia Tech's Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED)/First Aid Training.
Required Experience
Eight to ten years of job-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in related field.
Preferred Experience
10 plus years of job-related experience.

Proposed Salary

Job Grade:

Salary Range: $126,147.00 - $171,561.00. The final salary offer commensurate with education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Strong ability to manage and maintain effective working relationships with diverse population, ability to perform and effectively make important decisions under pressure. Ability to organize events that promote and market the core facilities through educational symposia and facility tours.
KNOWLEDGE
Advanced knowledge of core facility management systems from design and testing to implementation; strong knowledge of technical areas used within laboratories, management of multiple core facility managers, managing the sourcing, procurement, and installation of equipment. Strong knowledge on submission of NIH Shared Instrumentation Grants, NSF Major Research Instrumentation grants, and other types of grants as needed.
SKILLS
Expert in written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, people management, problem-solving, customer service, organization, strong attention to detail, interpersonal relationship building, budget planning, and creativity skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office products and problem-solving.
