Director, Product Development

Job Summary:
As the head of Product Development, you are accountable for establishing technical requirements for and executing on the software roadmap for all our Mobility on Demand solutions. You report directly to the General Manager, and you are a key contributor to our company's product and technology strategy. You know how to lead a stellar team that implements foundational technology such as Business Intelligence, Mobile Platforms and Technology, Infrastructure and Cloud Services, GIS Technologies, AI/ML, etc. You are the champion that will lead us on our journey of migrating our on-premise thick client solution to SaaS. You and your team are known for reliably delivering quality product releases on time. You are passionate, optimistic, enthusiastic, curious, pragmatic and enjoy challenges!
You will be part of a team working on a range of Scheduling/Planning solutions for fixed route public transit, paratransit, enterprise operations and asset management. You will lead a variety of development tasks in a growing organization and maintaining and upgrading our existing products while helping the staff to get prepared for the future. You will participate in cross-functional teamwork such as code-review, documentation, and defining specification and working closely with customer-facing teams such as product management, customer care and professional services.

Responsibilities
Business Acumen

• Champion the Product Development and support of our products. You are involved heavily in business and product strategy, and directly responsible for defining and driving the multi-year technical strategy across both software for the company that goes far beyond today's technology portfolio.
• Work hand in hand with the senior leadership and product management teams to develop the technology roadmap for the company and integrate effective technology usage into the development process.

Talented Technologist

• Provide thought leadership and technical strategy for all of software engineering (drive modernization with focus, scale, speed, and quality)
• Serve as chief steward and champion in the leadership and evolution of Trapeze Mobility on Demand's technology framework, technical assets, engineering processes, and software development lifecycle.
• Balance long-term investments in enabling technology and vision with short-term business and product requirements; including when to build vs. buy, or change from one technology to another.
• Have a passion for continuous learning in cutting edge technology; such as AI, big data, cloud computing (SaaS), algorithms, and rich mobile and web applications.

• People LeadershipDirect, coach, mentor, and develop the teams responsible for:

• Grow the Product Development team in such a way that "the bar" is raised with every hire and cultural fit is assured.
• Cultivate a culture of continuous education and improvement: Instill and promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and improvement within the software development team. Encourage team members to stay updated with industry best practices and the latest technologies.
• Manage and set an example for technology experts across technology disciplines (examples: Software Engineering, Cloud, Mobile, Web, IOT and Embedded Systems, Virtualization, BI & Analytics, GIS, Database, DevOps and Automation) that serve as the foundation for a diverse set of products.
• Effectively use non-core resources, including contractors and outsourced development for special projects and augment staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in migrating from on premise solutions to Native Cloud and SaaS.
• Experience leveraging cloud services to augment product offerings with capabilities that minimize our need to develop solutions internally.
• Experience managing and developing large teams and supporting multiple software solutions.
• Bachelors / Masters in Computer Science, Business or Engineering or equivalent business experience
• Knowledgeable in Transit and experience working in organizations with a critical understanding of data privacy, primarily HIPAA.
• Experience in agile and hybrid delivery methodologies
• Ability to travel up to 25% in North America
