Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Administrative department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Reports to: Regional President

Summary
The Director, Operational Excellence is responsible for working alongside the Project Controls Manager and Regional President to evaluate the areas of improvement on large projects throughout the state of Florida. Physical Demands & Work Environment:
 
       Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing. Standing or sitting for extended periods of time may be required.
       Ability to drive within the State of Florida, sometimes for extended periods of time.
       Lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds is expected occasionally 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for cost, schedule, risk management, and change management support during the development and construction phases of all large UES projects, especially large heavy civil projects/Dept. Of Transportation projects
    • Develops reliable tools, systems & processes, and adopts best practices necessary to successfully track development and construction progress and control project costs, schedule progress and risks
    • Negotiates agreements with subcontractors, vendors, customers, etc., for work done on projects.
    • Attends client meetings to support project recommendations
    • Monitors productivity and utilization rates, evaluates direct vs. indirect labor charges on projects to ensure all hours are being billed for appropriately
    • Supports project managers and engineers by reviewing project data to ensure all billing is captured
    • Supports business development team on developing customer proposals on an as-needed and as-available basis.
    • Reviews contracts
    • Manages review, negotiation, and recommendations for Change Orders (COs) across the state by evaluating information provided by Project Control Manager
    • Facilitates collaboration between company, clients, and other stakeholders
    • Attends company project progress meetings with clients, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders
    • Ensures controls address cost and/or budget considerations, scheduling, scope changes, change orders, etc.
    • Ensures that a project is completed on time and within budget.
    • Present weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports surrounding projects to leadership
    • Other duties may be assigned
Required Qualifications:
    • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver's License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
    • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida's Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).
    • Four (4) year degree from a US-accredited college or university, ideally majoring in Civil Engineering, Accounting, or similar, field
    • At least ten (10) years' experience in the A/E/C industry
    • Ability to travel within Florida to attend site visits, client meetings, business development events, and other meetings
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or clients.
    • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop and cell phone, including sending and receiving emails, prepare and present PowerPoint Presentations, and learn Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint, SAP Concur, and various building department software(s). Incredibly strong Microsoft Excel Skills are required (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables)
    • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. 
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental, Structural Engineering, Accounting, Construction Management or similar
    • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
