Job Goal: To provide a safe and efficient transportation system for the students of Liberty County
Supervises: Transportation Department
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of high school education, college preferred
- Previous experience as a school district Transportation Director or Transportation Supervisor preferred
- Ability to comprehend and enforce policies and procedures as they relate to students and staff
- Communicates effectively with all stakeholders and possesses appropriate interpersonal skills
- Possesses and maintains a valid Georgia driver’s license with a CDL/Bus endorsement
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prompt and regular attendance.
- Establishes school bus routes, dispatches buses, and supervises drivers and transportation personnel in accordance with policies and procedures
- Recommends employment of Transportation staff, maintains and upgrades a service training program, and delegates duties and responsibilities of the transportation department
- Coordinates the functions of the bus garage, the maintenance of buses, and other motorized vehicles.
- Maintains all required service logs and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Coordinates required inspections with applicable agencies.
- Assists in developing the transportation department budget and authorizes and approves purchases within the budget and in accordance with the system’s rules and regulations.
- Ensures compliance with Federal, State and Local policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Advises the Superintendent or designee of changes in rules and regulations in the area of responsibility, current trends and developments and potential road hazards.
- Enhances the climate of the building.
- Investigates all accidents involving system and determines precaution for prevention of accidents in the future.
- Establishes safe and efficient bus routes and pick-up and delivery points and procedures. Ensures assignment of bus routes and drivers.
- Supervises assignment of all field trips.
- Coordinates with Human Resources drug screenings for all transportation personnel.
- Evaluates drivers and other transportation personnel.
- Acts as a liaison between bus drivers and District and school-level staff.
- Attends approved conferences to stay informed of “best practices”.
- Updates forms and paperwork to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Serves as a communication source for employees.
- Works with employees and supervisors to resolve issues and address concerns.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or the Superintendent of Schools.
Physical Requirements:
Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:
Medium Work: Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment:
Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule. Length of work year and hours of employment shall be established by the system.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Executive Director of Maintenance & Operation.
