Job description

Job Summary:

The UW-Madison Division of Extension is seeking a Director of the Office of Access, Inclusion, and Compliance. The Director of the Office of Access, Inclusion, and Compliance (OAIC) develops and implements strategies to advance institutional change, foster a positive and inclusive work environment, and ensure that inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and belonging considerations are incorporated into the programming developed and delivered by the Division of Extension. The Director promotes and supports the purpose, vision, and values, as well as the strategic direction and educational priorities of the Division of Extension.

The OAIC Director collaborates with Division of Extension leadership to plan objectives, set priorities, and implement operational frameworks related to Extension's inclusion, diversity, equity, access and belonging efforts. The Director serves as the point of contact for Extension with its federal funding partner, USDA/NIFA, to ensure compliance with federal funding mandates related to civil rights, nondiscrimination and equal opportunity.
A core component of OAIC's work has been centered on supporting and improving the quality of Extension's programs and services, with a central focus on matters of Accessibility, equity, and inclusivity, including language access through translation, interpretation, and other language support services. OAIC is a state-wide unit that partners with educators across Wisconsin to support expanding access to programming to all residents of Wisconsin. To accomplish outcomes of this position, the Director works independently, as well as with the Division of Extension Dean and Director, members of the Extension Dean's Leadership Team, Institute Directors, Area Extension Directors, Program managers and other colleagues, committees and teams within the Division. This position also collaborates with the UW-Madison Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement to advance initiatives and share leadership toward institutional goals related to diversity and inclusion.
The Director supervises six FTE within the Office of Access, Inclusion, and Compliance. The Division of Extension has a deep and profound commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity, believing that these values are foundational elements to eliminate disparities and expanding access for all. Responsibilities:

Leads the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in support of the division's strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed.

  • 15% Serves as a liaison between the division and enforcement agencies and represents the division to the external community, organizations, and agencies
  • 15% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes divisional objectives to ensure appropriate allocation of resources
  • 15% Partners with institutional leaders, faculty, students, staff, and internal and external constituency groups to ensure programming supports the division's values and strategic goals and assesses and monitors program effectiveness
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Develops and audits the unit budget, monitors financial activities for grant funding
  • 10% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and diversity objectives
  • 15% Develops, refines and manages systems for the efficient delivery of diversity, access, and inclusion services across the Division

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred
Master's Degree in an applicable field

Qualifications:

Required:
1. Has provided leadership for the implementation of initiatives and efforts in a large and geographically dispersed organization with a goal of expanding inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and belonging.
2. Experience providing interpretation of and leadership for the application of civil rights, nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws, regulations and policies in an organizational setting, including investigating and responding to concerns and complaints.
3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build relationships across different aspects of identity, including but not limited to race, color, national origin, language, sex, age, disability, political affiliation, and community size and location.
4. Experience managing multiple projects, including support for collaborative process effectiveness and efficiency.
5. At least five years of experience implementing diversity, equity and inclusion work.
Preferred:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of linguistic equity, language access policies and experience in strategic management of multilingual communications at an organizational level.
2. At least two years of experience in a supervisory role.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the connection between inclusion, diversity, access, and belonging and the development and implementation of community-based educational programs.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
