POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the ongoing, effective operation of NWTHS Surgical Services and is responsible for the ongoing assessment and improvement of the activities within this department. Such responsibilities encompass not only the internal functioning of Surgical Services, but also the integration of the department into the overall functioning of Northwest Texas Healthcare System. The Director of Surgical Services supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.
PROVISION OF SERVICES
- Demonstrates leadership in the provision of departmental services through a collaborative process designed to integrate services/functions throughout NWTHS.
- Directs daily operations and activities of the Surgical Services Department.
LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE
- Exhibits effective leadership skills through planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating departmental functions in relation to the UHS and the NWTHS vision, mission, strategic goals and values and in accordance with JCAHO’s leadership standards
OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
- Operates departments of responsibility in such a way as to meet the fiscal goals of the organization.
- Implements value added programs and services. Manages the satisfaction of department customers to include patients, employees and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to customer issues.

- Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas required
- Bachelor’s degree required, or obtained within 6 months of appointment, BSN preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years leadership experience required as a Director or Assistant Director required
- Experience in a 8+ room OR, teaching hospital of 250+ beds and trauma center preferred
- Appropriate clinical experience required
