About the Role:
The Director of Special Events will direct the development of the annual Governor’s Conference of Travel and Tourism and other events, programs, and workshops developed to promote tourism and develop cohesion in the Massachusetts tourism industry.
The Director of Special Events will also oversee MOTT’s participation in and management of other Special Events, consumer shows, and trade shows throughout the year.
Duties and Responsibilites:(these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Oversee the planning and execution of the annual Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism, including management of the event vendor.
- Evaluate the annual Governor’s Conference and make recommendations for improvements to be implemented in future years.
- Create an RFP for event management; work with regional tourism councils and event management vendors to ensure conference moves around Massachusetts and is representative of and a benefit to the entire Massachusetts tourism industry.
- Work with the MOTT team to support other Special Events during the year, including events pertaining to Massachusetts 250, trade and consumer shows, and other Special Events.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- 3-5 years of marketing, communications, and events experience.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Must possess excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, along with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work occasional extended hours and early morning, evening, and weekend hours for events.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds with or without accommodation.
- Understanding of the travel and tourism industry.
- Familiarity with destination marketing.
- Knowledge of Microsoft suite platforms (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
