Position Title: Director of Security

FLSA Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum Department of Operations

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum has an opening for a full-time exempt Director of Security in the Operations Department.

Company Overview: Located in the heart of downtown Nashville, the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum documents and interprets the history of country music—a musical genre and culture central to the identity of the city, the state, and the nation. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the museum proudly combines subject expertise, ambitious research, and preservation of an unparalleled collection with expressions of creativity in music, art, and history. The museum collects artifacts that illustrate the evolving history and traditions of country music while providing diverse learning opportunities. The core exhibit follows the story of country music from its folk beginnings through its emergence as a commercial art form. Rotating exhibits examine a broad range of topics, from country classics to ultra-contemporary and emerging artists in American Currents. The museum owns Hatch Show Print, a letterpress print shop opened in 1879, and it operates Historic RCA Studio B, where Elvis Presley and many others recorded.

Departmental Overview: Our department is responsible for security, housekeeping, courier services, and dock management. Our goal is to provide efficient and professional support to internal and external clients, while also serving as a museum ambassador to external clients. Our responsibilities include providing a clean and safe space for guests, visitors, staff, and artifacts. We strive to provide excellent customer service and exceed expectations.

Job Overview:

This is a full-time exempt position which supervises all security officers. Position maintains and enforces security policies and procedures, while providing security of the buildings, artifacts, and other company assets. Responsible for a safe working environment for staff and visitors during all hours and all events. The properties which security must oversee include our primary museum location as well as Historic RCA Studio B and a warehouse. Position oversees and has daily interaction with third-party security companies, which provide security personnel. Position monitors, observes, and reports daily activities throughout the building and all locations. This position reports to the Senior Director of Facilities, Operations and Sustainability. This position and the security team must maintain professionalism, composure and confidentiality while working in a high-profile environment. Interactions with VIPs, dignitaries and artists will be part of the routine responsibilities.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Oversees the security department, which includes on-staff security management personnel as well as third party security teams.
  • Administers and maintains policies to assure the safety of property, assets, and people in the organization.
  • Plans, develops, and prioritizes training for security officers.
  • Conducts staff training on emergency procedures such as workplace violence, weather, fire, elevators, alarm panels and shut off valves.
  • Maintains daily reports, incident reports, and records for the security department.
  • Ensure weekly meetings are scheduled with the Security Manager and third-party security company account manager.
  • Reviews and approves weekly payroll and authorizes overtime, as needed.
  • Reviews weekly and special event security officer schedules
  • Assists with creating, implementing, and maintaining the security department budget.
  • Reports incidents to the Senior Director of Facilities, Operations, and Sustainability as needed.
  • Escorts VIPS and works high profile events, as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating, as needed, a comprehensive safety plan and emergency notification procedures.
  • Oversees security access to the building including the staff and guest access badges.
  • Responsible for oversight of properly working alarm systems for all access points outside of and within our buildings, including our network of cameras- working and coordinating with facilities and IT departments on these systems as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge in the security field and establishes, implements, and updates security related policies and procedures.
  • Represents the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on committees and professional organizations.
  • Maintains a working relationship with local MNPD and neighboring venues/businesses to maintain a network of resources and support.
  • Interacts with VIPs, artists, dignitaries as part of routine responsibilities while maintaining professionalism, composure, and confidentiality.
  • Assists the CEO’s office as needed.
Requirements:

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years management and supervisory experience in the security related field
  • Must be available for flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate employees effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Position subject to satisfactory completion of background check.
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds and to run towards or away from situations requiring immediate response.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree in related field is preferable.
  • Professional certification is desired.
