Job description

NJ/NY Gotham FC (“Gotham FC” or “the Club”) is a National Women’s Soccer League (“NWSL”) team representing New Jersey and New York. The team plays at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.
The Role:
Gotham FC is seeking a Director of Scouting & Roster Development that will report to the General Manager (GM). The Director of Scouting & Roster Development will help to build a pipeline of successful talent for the club through various methods of networking, analytics, and relationship building.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with General Manager (GM) and Chief Soccer Officer (CSO) to develop the short-term and long-term goals of Gotham FC’s roster; particularly, collectively strategize & execute on current and future Roster Development and scouting within the NWSL and internationally
  • Create and deliver a comprehensive player identification and evaluation system / database, which includes detailed, evidence-based positional profiles aligned to club playing principles, depth charts and player grading systems, video and live observation of players. This includes identifying, tracking, and executing player KPIs in partnership with the Technical Team, the creation of uniformed scouting templates and procedures to align with Gotham FC’s vision, and managing potential talent information through multiple streams (broadcast footage, player data, and networking in the field)
  • Meet all goals related to adding new players into the database (including from all appropriate domestic and international clubs), as well as new scouting reports each week from a quality and quantity standpoint; ensure each scout has surfaced pre-determined number of strong prospects per week
  • Serve as a resource to the Club's Technical Staff on all matters pertaining to player Scouting and monitoring of potential players of interest; ensure that they are provided with appropriate and accurate information to make informed decisions about talent
  • Ensure that the Scouting Department is flexible to the evolving needs of the club and has a robust database of player information that can be referenced as necessary by Technical Staff as part of effective succession planning and adapting to changing circumstances and needs
  • Develop scouting networks and programs within relevant markets (domestically & internationally) with the goal of forming a 3-year strategic scouting plan for the club
  • Oversee and communicate effectively with Scouts to ensure all directives, objectives, and personal responsibilities are clear and executed accordingly
  • Deliver regular, consistent and reliable player reports for all markets to include all steps from initial identification to final confirmation
  • Ensure that Gotham FC has an in-person presence at important domestic & international tournaments
  • Form professional working relationships with fellow league personnel, coaches, staff, external players, and agents to stay current with industry standards and best practices with regards to recruitment strategies
  • Continuously evaluate opportunities for the Club / Scouting Dept. to adopt new scouting techniques / tools / software / strategies to gain a competitive advantage and maximize quality of players scouted
  • Record details of work undertaken in line with Gotham Scouting Dept. procedures
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a scout or equivalent in a professional club or international
  • Significant knowledge of NWSL and women’s soccer landscape domestically & internationally
  • Have a proven track record in scouting
  • Must be flexible to work evenings and/or weekends, including event held on weekends, nights, and holidays, when necessary
  • Must be flexible and willing to travel both domestically & internationally
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational abilities to manage multiple individuals, programs, and priorities, including short-term (event) and long-term planning
  • Ability to manage and communicate with a network of agents and contacts within various levels of soccer, both domestic and abroad
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful (not required)

  • Must be highly detail-oriented
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Must possess the ability to communicate, both written and orally, effectively and consistently
  • Knowledge and experience with scouting software / techniques that is utilized within the industry
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and a strategic mindset
  • The ability to foster and build genuine relationships with personnel and players
  • Must be willing and able to work long hours, including weekends and evenings
Location:
This position is based at Gotham FC’s soccer operations office and practice facility, currently located in Whippany, New Jersey. Ability to work at the team’s business office, currently located in Jersey City, as needed will also be required. The person must be able and willing to attend all Gotham FC home games, and as necessary, away games and other business-related travel. Gotham FC requires its employees to live in its market, that is, within reasonable commuting distance of Gotham FC’s office, practice facility and Red Bull Arena
