Director of School Nutrition Services
POSITION PURPOSE: To oversee all aspects of foodservice in all schools or sites, administering the school meal program in accordance with local, state, and federal policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees and coordinates the daily operation of the corporation’s food service program.
- Processes and verifies free and reduced applications.
- Works with the financial department in creating and maintaining monthly and yearly budgets.
- Approves weekly food orders.
- Works with the state to ensure all kitchens are following federal guidelines.
- Monitor’s food production, inventory, ordering and handles all communication with vendors.
- Prepares production records including standards for quantity, quality and nutrition for food prepared and served.
- Follows state and federal guidelines pertaining to Child Nutrition Programs.
- Responsible for creating order guide templates, checking, monitoring, and releasing food and non-food orders.
- Supervises and organizes training for all food service employees in HACCP procedures, batch cooking, cooking techniques and menu planning.
- Bid development and specification writing, cost analysis of products and price comparisons.
- Coordinates all commodity needs and orders to be delivered and distributed to all schools monthly.
- Organizes and plans food service manager meetings and training workshops.
- Works with individual employees on work simplification, establishing a daily routine and cross training in other areas to streamline operations.
- Processes requisitions for needed equipment repair and maintenance.
- Oversees catering, special functions and vending orders, invoicing; and assists with events as needed.
- Monitors and updates the district food service website.
- Plans and creates nutrition lesson plans for classroom education.
- Monitor’s use of standardized recipes in all schools.
- Approves monthly menus for high school and middle school and cycle calendar for elementary schools.
- Assists with recipe tasting, product sampling and upkeep of food service recipe binders. All recipes must be HACCP compliant and allergen specific.
- Works with corporation wellness and meets with individual school wellness committees.
- Provides labor coverage at schools when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree with specific major OR
- Bachelor’s degree with any academic major and a State-recognized certificate OR
- Bachelor’s degree with any academic major and at least 2 years of relevant SNP experience OR
- Associates degree with specific major and at least 2 years of relevant SNP experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations, and policies governing child nutrition programs.
- SERV Safe Certified
- Operate a motor vehicle and travel between schools is required.
- Experience or educational background in a business field preferred
WORK CALENDAR: Full time employee, 52 weeks per year, 40 hours per week
SALARY: Based on Education and Experience
