Position Summary: The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Research, Sponsored Programs, and the Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center (ACRC). This position encompasses two primary roles: Oversight and encouragement of UAS Research, Creative Activity & Sponsored Programs Serving as the Managing Director of ACRC

The selected candidate will report directly to the UAS Provost. This position offers an opportunity to work with program leadership at UAS to define strategies for new and existing programs. The focus is on highlighting research and creative activity, as well as encouraging participation and performance across colleges, schools, and departments. This position will also have direct oversight and management responsibilities for ACRC, guiding and managing the center's trajectory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with University leadership, faculty, and students to advance research and creative activities.
  • Support, facilitate, and enhance research infrastructure through interdisciplinary and intercampus collaboration.
  • Coordinate and make best use of related physical assets.
  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing a strategic vision.
  • Build student research opportunities.
  • Provide fiscal management and oversight; and supervise employees.
  • Seek and encourage success in securing both grant and philanthropic funding.
  • Build and maintain collaborations with societal partners, including tribal entities.

The ideal candidate will be an individual with an ability and desire to work with colleagues from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. They should also be committed to encouraging the growth and development of diversity at UAS.

The University of Alaska Southeast campuses reside on the unceded territories of the AakwKwaan, Taanta Kwaan, and Sheetka Kwaan on Lingit Aani (Tlingit land), also known as Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka, Alaska, adjacent to the ancestral home of the Xaadas (Haida) and Ts'msy-en (Tsimshian).

The Juneau area is in the territory of the Aakw Kwaan (People of the Little Lake) and is home to the largest Federally Recognized Tribe in Alaska: Tlingit & Haida. It is also home to the Douglas Indian Association, Sealaska Corporation headquarters, and Goldbelt Corporation. The City of Juneau is the state capital and the largest city in southeastern Alaska. The city offers a flourishing downtown business and arts scene, an extensive library system, and public transportation. As Alaska's capital, Juneau sits at the epicenter of Alaska's governmental and economic affairs.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Juneau campus in. This is a full-time, non-represented faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
