Description
The Director of Production Services will oversee the Production Department, including the management and maintenance of backstage areas, stage designs and setup, and training of student work staff. The position also supervises the Production Coordinator and the part-time Production Associates, and manages all technical requirements and setup for our performance venues. The Director of Production Services will work closely with the Director of Concert Operations, as well as the other Concert Operations and Artistic Operations staff, in coordinating the success of the various events that take place.
Primary Duties
- Oversees technical aspects of all production activities, which include semi and fully staged operas, ensemble performances, recitals, master classes and other events
- Manages lighting system and coordinates theatrical lighting maintenance and rentals, hiring and supervising freelance lighting technicians as needed.
- Oversees the organization of all production items related to major concerts and events, and ensures the successful, safe and efficient operation of all SFCM performances and events, both on and off-site.
- Supervises the Production Coordinator and part-time Production Associates
- Works with the Production Coordinator in training student workers to staff stage crew and stage manager roles.
- Serves as primary liaison with performance departments for production of events, including Opera and Musical Theatre and Special Events
- Oversees setups for classrooms as needed
- Provides professional production and technical support for performances, operas, workshops, and special events
- Solicits, tracks, and fulfills concert and event requests from faculty, staff, students, and renters
- Supports technical needs of organizations who rent SFCM facilities
- Recruits, trains, and supervises on-call student performance staff and stage crew for approximately 750 events annually
- Track the department budget with the Associate Vice President for Artistic Operations
- Performs other duties as needed
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of stage requirements for a variety of music ensemble
- Background in concert production and technical theater
- The ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects at any one time with superior attention to detail
- Working knowledge of theatrical lighting, particularly Strand and ETC lighting systems
- Must be a clear and effective communicator who can solve issues astutely and efficiently, with the ability to collaborate with a wide variety of individuals in a multicultural environment
- Capacity to simultaneously coordinate multiple projects and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; train and manage a crew of student workers
- Able to take initiative and implement process improvements in collaboration with the production team
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- A Bachelor's degree
