Job: Full-Time Director of Philanthropy in Tucson, Arizona. HYBRID – preference given to qualified local candidates in the Tucson Metro area.

Western National Parks Association (WNPA), a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service (NPS), home-based in Tucson, Arizona is seeking a Full-Time, Director of Philanthropy who will lead, organize, and execute fundraising and community outreach strategies to further develop and strengthen the current donor and support base and raise funding for WNPA’s 71 partnering national park sites in 12 western states.

 

WNPA is seeking a creative, collaborative, passionate, and hands-on leader who will lead and support the Partner Services and Philanthropy team. The Director of Philanthropy will be responsible for building WNPA’s philanthropic impact, cultivating donors and funding from various sources, growing the current membership program, and raising WNPA’s visibility locally, regionally, and nationally. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage WNPA’s fundraising program and develop long and short-range development plans to increase philanthropic impact.
  • Create and execute fundraising and major donor cultivation campaigns and strategies, collaborating with external resources as appropriate.
  • Develop objectives, goals, measurements, and expected outcomes for campaigns, communications, and engagement activities.
  • Formulate an overall plan and direction for philanthropic activities with an associated work plan detailing short and long-term goals, specific action steps, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team, marketing team and external agencies to develop the fundraising case statement(s) and individual campaign strategies.
  • Develop legacy and recurring gift programs.
  • Manage wealth screening and analytics. 
  • Design, plan, manage, and evaluate special events to achieve fund development goals. 
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on creative requests, digital plans, and assets.
  • Research grant availability, collect data, write grant applications, using additional resources as appropriate, and fulfill grant reporting requirements.
  • Cultivate and network with appropriate private, public, and nonprofit leaders to raise visibility, build/maintain relationships that serve to meet fundraising goals.
  • Serve as the liaison with the WNPA board to support their fundraising and committee work.
  • Actively promote WNPA with key donors and businesses at community events.
  • Attend local WNPA programming to cultivate and nurture current and future donors.
  • Oversee fundraising database to track donations and related information. Oversee and ensure the confidentiality of donor and management information.
  • Integrate development program objectives and activities with other WNPA objectives and activities to ensure consistent messaging and strategic deployment of resources.
  • Leverage data to evaluate the efficiency of initiatives and approaches.  Use that information to drive decisions and revise strategies.
  • Responsible for drafting, implementing, and overseeing the department’s operating budget, including revenue and expenses.
  • Recommend approaches and support best practices in fundraising.
  • Define, achieve, and analyze annual and multi-year giving goals,  prepare and present fundraising reports to leadership team and WNPA Board
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

TRAVEL

Occasional travel is required for board meetings, conferences, and visits to partner parks. Remote positions will require frequent travel to the home office based in Tucson, Arizona. Occasional In and out-of-state travel including multi-day and overnight trips to remote locations.

 

Qualifications, Experience, and Benefits

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum of seven years of development experience with a nonprofit organization. 
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in philanthropy, major gift giving and solicitation, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Illustrated credibility necessary to influence and tactfully manage relationships with internal and external constituencies. Demonstrated success in achieving annual monetary goals and development activity benchmarks.
  • Successful experience in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies for a portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Experience in gaining access to and establishing connections with national businesses, foundations, and industry leaders and philanthropists.
  • Proven successful track record raising funds and managing projects. 
  • Outstanding oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills in performing all aspects of the job.
  • Exceptional creative problem-solving skills.
  • Embraces and demonstrates a commitment to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Passion for WNPA’s vision, mission, and commitment to public lands.
  • Ability to represent WNPA clearly and professionally through excellent written and oral communication, public speaking, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, particularly in gaining consensus with different experience levels and personality types while inspiring staff via mentoring, development, and empowerment.
  • Ability to manage, work, and network collaboratively across functions, departments, board members, and the National Park Service.
  • Ability to extract and analyze data to make effective, efficient decisions about donor strategy and process.
  • Knowledge of various computer programs, including CRM software, databases, video conferencing software, Adobe Suite, project management, and Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in fundraising Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, donor/prospect research software, and management and reporting tools.
