Description:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Operations, the Director of Performance Excellence is a key system level position for St. Mary's Healthcare System. This position has the responsibility of utilizing data driven Lean Management principles to help standardize meaningful continuous Performance Excellence programs across all regional system hospitals (St. Mary's - Athens, Good Samaritan, and Sacred Heart Hospital), medical group, physician alignment and post-acute services. Core responsibility is to align and drive business related improvements while working with the Quality/PI, Strategy and Marketing departments to align business-related improvements with the clinical needs of patient care and outcomes.
The Director of Performance Excellence will work in concert with the fellow Directors and senior leadership to execute strategic Performance Excellence initiatives set forth by the senior leadership team and Trinity Health. The Director of Performance Excellence will be the key project manager for the regional health system's strategic Performance Excellence initiatives, optimizing performance operating metrics, Care Coordination, leader education, A3 efforts and interfacing outcomes with the System Office. The Director of Performance Excellence will work with the Director of Quality/Performance Improvement to align business related strategies with established meaningful process improvement programs. Will work with department directors and managers to assist them in driving cost reduction and/or revenue generating improvements. The Director will have a special focus on revenue generating departments, always working with those department leaders to fine tune processes in order to drive improvements.
The qualified candidate will have a thorough knowledge of Lean Management Systems and /or 6-Sigma and have a demonstrated competence in utilizing Lean and 6-Sigma tools and reports to drive successful change. The manager will present the results of current projects at the monthly Quality Council. The Director of Performance Excellence will present metrics data when requested to senior leadership. The Director of Performance Excellence is responsible for
establishing and maintaining an ongoing meaningful process improvement program throughout the health system utilizing Lean, 6-Sigma and other Performance Excellence tools to help drive cost reductions, revenue enhancements, track new services, etc. Will ensure that PE projects and teams are multidisciplinary and useful throughout the system as a whole.
Is responsible for meeting with each hospital's leadership team bi-annually to establish and recalibrate the Performance Excellence initiatives for the system, to develop the plan to carry out those initiatives, and to ensure that current best practices are in force and in effect, monitoring compliance and success of the initiatives. He / She will engage the appropriate senior leader quickly when signs arise indicating a department/department leader is struggling to meet targets.
The director will serve on a host of committees including , Operations & Growth Council, Labor Resource, Position Control, Quality Council, Administrative Council, Service Line meetings, Volume Optimization, Experience and other committees as designated by the Senior Vice President of Operations.
A. Education: Required possession of a thorough understanding of the theory and application of Performance improvement processes and methodologies as well as health care operations usually obtained through a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Engineering, Health Care Administration and/or BSN or other clinically related degree. Lean and/or 6-Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.
B. Experience: 3- 5 years' experience with successful Performance Excellence/QA/PI programs or equivalent experience is a plus and will be given special consideration.
C. Special Qualifications: Certified in Lean Management and /or 6-Sigma Greenbelt, 6-Sigma Blackbelt is preferred.
