Job Summary:
The Director of Medical Billing is a senior leadership role responsible for managing all aspects of the billing process for our companies. This position requires a strong blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, and team leadership skills to ensure accurate and timely billing operations while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties:
- Billing Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive billing strategy aligned with the organization's financial goals and objectives.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance billing efficiency and accuracy.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage a team of billing professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
- Set performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and promote a collaborative and results-oriented team environment.
- Billing Operations:
- Oversee the end-to-end billing process, including invoice generation, distribution, and collection.
- Ensure accurate calculation of charges, fees, and taxes per contractual agreements and regulations.
- Handle complex billing issues and disputes, collaborating with internal departments and customers to find timely resolutions.
- Systems and Technology:
- Evaluate, implement, and maintain billing systems and technologies to optimize processes and maintain data integrity.
- Work closely with IT teams to integrate billing systems with other relevant platforms (CRM, ERP, etc.).
- Financial Analysis:
- Monitor billing metrics, analyze trends, and generate reports for senior management, highlighting KPIs and areas for improvement.
- Forecast revenue based on billing trends and customer behavior.
- Compliance and Regulations:
- Stay current with industry regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements related to billing.
- Ensure billing practices adhere to legal and ethical standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with finance, sales, legal, and other departments to ensure alignment on pricing, contract terms, and billing practices.
- Process Improvement:
- Continuously assess and improve billing processes to minimize errors, reduce manual intervention, and streamline operations.
- 7+ years of experience in billing operations
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, revenue recognition, and financial processes.
- Collaborate EMR and billing software programs.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong understanding of healthcare billing, coding, reimbursement principles, and industry regulations.
- Excellent managerial and financial skills
- High degree of organization with strict adherence to deadlines and a sense of urgency.
- Ability to manage high-stress situations and ensure healthy relationships with clients.
- Capability to comfortably handle issues and problem accounts.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Experience with billing in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) preferred.
- Billing and coding certification or Certified Revenue Cycle Professional preferred.
- Experience with E-Clinical Works preferred.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):
- All KPI’s are recorded on a KPI Report and evaluated monthly, quarterly, and annually.

Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment primarily but can include construction areas while in the field. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, fax machines, scanners, etc.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- This is primarily a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stoop, as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to twenty pounds.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
- Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Regular hours of work vary due to project timelines and travel schedule.

Salary: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
