Position Summary:

As part of the AIRBUS U.S. external relations team, this position will lead all the integrated marketing and communications team in planning and executing related activities for the entire AIRBUS U.S. Space & Defense portfolio. This person will also represent AIRBUS U.S. to the Airbus Affiliate marketing and communications teams to ensure coordination of Marketing and communications initiatives. This position will oversee activities including, but not limited to, media relations, internal communications, campaign-related communications, copy, content, and marketing collateral, and digital communications for AIRBUS U.S.


Responsibilities:

  • Management of External Marketing and Communications planning and output across business 50%
  • Oversee development and execution of all external focused marketing and communications efforts. Personally develop and execute effective strategic communication plans for priority programs and capture efforts in the US, applying the full range of Marketing and communications tools and tactics (incl. earned media, paid media, digital and multimedia, promotional materials, ad placements, sponsorships, tradeshows, and media events) to deliver key messages to high-value audiences at strategically relevant times.
  • Ensure coordinated development and execution of Marketing and communications campaigns within the Airbus US team as well as global colleagues to ensure message alignment, maximize sharing of resources and contribute to company-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate and oversee implementation of innovative marketing assets as a resource for analyzing market data and tools that also create brand enhancing strategies that support business development and sales efforts
  • Manage, cultivate and develop a coordinated and integrated marketing and communications team ensuring an organized, timely, and relevant output of content.
  • Oversee Internal Communications across the business: 20%
  • Oversee and assist in development and execution of effective internal communications planning to deliver key messages to AIRBUS U.S. employees and wider Airbus community in the U.S. and Europe.
  • Oversee and assist in the development of culture building, one-team oriented internal communications plan to help connect a geographically diverse employee base.
  • Ensure coordination with Airbus U.S. sites across the country as well as colleagues around the world to maintain message alignment, maximize sharing of resources and contribute to company-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure that positive Space and Defense stories are incorporated into AIRBUS U.S. internal communications, including through the Global Airbus Hub or other venues across the company.
  • Digital Communications, Social Media, Website Communications : 20%
  • Develop and implement strategically relevant social and digital media campaigns supporting areas of strategic emphasis, with particular focus on Defense and Space programs.
  • Promote the use of digital media tactics more fully and effectively across the business. Oversee training internal stakeholders on best practices.
  • Coordinate activities with digital communications campaigns within other Airbus business units, divisions and countries, to maximize cross-promotion and resource-sharing.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to support other internal and external communications activities and campaigns across divisions. Oversee planning and implementation of executive thought leadership campaign. Oversee annual budget planning and execution. Supervise multi-member team in daily tasks and perform team leadership and management functions, to include professional development and performance reviews.


Requirements:

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, similar discipline
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or similar discipline

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

Experience:

  • Must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in marketing or communications, preferably in the defense and/or aerospace industry sector, 10-15 years preferred.
  • Ability to successfully pitch stories to news media; ability to write and execute a strategic communications plan; knowledge of advertising practices and principles; ability to plan and manage complex public-facing events; familiarity with military aviation technology and U.S. military acquisitions; familiarity with space launch, satellite and geospatial imaging technology, and understanding of NASA, ESA, U.S. military and other customers' business models
  • Experience in strategic communications and/or marketing-related activities strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a highly dynamic environment with multiple competing priorities.
  • Experience managing a budget strongly preferred.
  • Experience with translating communications and marketing assessment, analytics, performance metrics and KPIs into plain English for executive leaders preferred.

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • This position requires exceptional written and spoken communications skills in English, suitable for speaking on the record on behalf of the company to skillfully incorporate key messages in answers to complex questions. The individual must be able to write effective press releases, on-the-record statements, social media posts, Q&As, key message documents, speeches and other communications materials with an exceptional level of proficiency.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, LinkedIn and other common social media platforms.

Travel Required:

  • 10% Domestic and International

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident

Decision Making, Complexity:

  • The individual must be able to apply critical judgment in responding to on-the-record queries from media, crafting responses in real time that adhere to company lines-to-take, incorporating key messages and stay within the limits of authorized areas of responsibility. This position also requires the ability to analyze environmental factors within the company, such as strategic business priorities and strengths/weaknesses of individual programs, to make recommendations for strategic communications priorities.

Job Dimensions, Contributions to Success:

  • This position is responsible for managing and organizing strategic communications plans that influence overall company brand identity and prospects for winning new business. The individual also speaks for the company in social media channels, and may occasionally be called upon to speak on the record to media about issues that can impact public image or even stock price.

Nature of Contacts:

  • Role includes involved communication with internal and external parties on a daily basis.

Physical Requirements:

  • The physical requirements for this position are commensurate with typical office desk work 90% of the time. The individual will occasionally be required to be present at trade shows or special events for eight to ten consecutive hours, during which time seating may be limited or not available.
