Role Definition
The IBM Mainframe Director of Operations is responsible for all FNTS IBM Mainframe Cloud customer success and ensuring that the FNTS IBM Mainframe Cloud Operations team provides excellent customer experience. This includes providing all day two operations, keeping IBM and ISV programs current, and optimizing the performance of all customer environments. This person will develop and implement standards and best practices for delivering observability, anomaly detection, alerting, automation, and optimization of customer infrastructure and Mainframe Operations. The Director of Operations will be responsible for the daily operations of the IBM Mainframe Cloud product lines including MFaaS and IaaS for zOS, VSE, and zVM as well as DB2, CICS, and other solutions as necessary. This individual is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the Mainframe Operations team to ensure expertise in delivering IBM Mainframe products and services. This role is also responsible for managing and monitoring the day-to-day activities associated with delivering the products and services to the customer, including but not limited to, customer relations, support, technology, incident management, architecture standards, and successfully managing technical projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management and optimization of all IBM Mainframe customer environments.
  • Develop and implement best practices for monitoring, anomaly detection, alerting, automation, optimization, and capacity planning of all infrastructure and transactions processed on the mainframe.
  • Ensure that day to day operational needs and projects for IBM Mainframe customers are identified and met.
  • Utilize IBM and ISV tools and applications to provide visibility and optimization of customers environment.
  • Recommend continuous improvement and tuning strategies for Mainframe customers.
  • Responsible for establishing and reporting on goals, strategies, key performance metrics, and plans necessary to exceed mainframe customer expectations.
  • Understands and anticipates customer needs and takes action to provide high quality products and services to exceed their expectations.
  • Provide technical and service delivery direction for IBM Mainframe Operations.
  • Deeply understand customer needs and evangelize them with a wide set of partners.
  • Solve complex problems strategically with results-driven execution.
  • Develop and implement standard processes for Mainframe Operations that ensures customers solutions are current and optimized.
  • Constantly retrospect, prioritize and course correct to optimize customer environments and day to day operations.
  • Provide IBM Mainframe operational best practices.
  • Keep abreast of IBM Mainframe product feature releases, especially those used in day two operations and optimization.
  • Manage the technical planning and execution of IBM Mainframe Operations.

Job Qualifications
  • 7+ years of Mainframe Operations management experience
  • IBM Mainframe product expertise including tools used for observability, anomaly detection, alerting, automation, optimization, and capacity planning.
  • IBM Mainframe expertise for zOS, VSE, and zVM
  • IBM Mainframe software and licensing expertise
  • IBM Mainframe hardware and software pricing expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
  • Passion for building great customer experiences.
  • Deep customer & user empathy, and ability to identify customer needs
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication & cross-group skills
  • Exceptional problem solving, strategic thinking and technical skills
  • Self-driven and able to work with minimal direction
  • Track record of managing and optimizing complex, large IBM Mainframe programs
  • Expertise in coordination and escalation to IBM Mainframe support and ability to coordinate with first- and third-party software vendors as needed for resolution of business-impacting problems
  • Managed Service Provider experience
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Aware of best practice security approaches for information protection in a Mainframe environment
  • Able to present business cases, strategies, and solutions to management and customers
  • Excellent customer service

Has managed teams of engineers that are experts at managing multiple customer Mainframe environments.
