Purpose: To ensure enrichment programs of recreation and socialization activities, designed to revitalize, increase self-esteem and maintain and/or improve the skills of the residents.

Compensation: This position is salaried and is exempt from overtime pay. Performance compensation bonus will be computed at 20% of regular earnings upon eligibility.

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee planning of programs provided to residents that meet that align with successful aging.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Enrichment team members for developing innovational methodologies to improve resident and family satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership to residents and team members regarding the Masterpiece Living program
  • Responsible for managing and developing Life Enrichment team, including but not limited to: interviewing, hiring and training team members, planning, assigning or directing work, payroll, addressing complaints, resolving conflicts and all aspects of performance management.
  • Assure all Life Enrichment team members are consistently developed and trained, including fulfilling any federal and/or state regulations, through new team member orientation and regular education and training classes.
  • Serve as a member of the community's management team to identify resident needs, submit recommendations and participate in decisions regarding program plans.
  • Attend resident association meetings and work with committees of residents in an advisory and supportive capacity to identify resident and program needs.
  • Obtain replacement activity team members in case of absences; if unable to obtain replacement team member, may need to work shift to assure adequate coverage.
  • Prepare and approve in advance monthly/quarterly planning for special events, field trips, entertainment, and community outreach/involvement programs.
  • Address all resident concerns regarding problems associated with Life Enrichment and address them accordingly.
  • Provide an evaluation of the residents' needs, level of function, leisure interests, history and goals and including completing the Lifestyle Reviews.
  • Attend team service plan meetings, where appropriate, and provide meaningful input relating to overall observations regarding problems, strengths, and goals in terms of the resident and plan of action.
  • Ensure that documentation adheres to best practices and regulations. Documentation will be done with accuracy, clarity and neatness while using appropriate terminology.
  • Communicate to department heads, general staff, residents and family, the schedule of planned activities using calendars and announcements. Calendars will be kept within the community and updated as necessary to reflect substitutions in the activities provided and post the monthly calendar in a professional manner.
  • Solicit and document resident participation in activities and communicate changes as necessary to the care team.
  • Plan, coordinate, and assist with tasteful decoration of community routinely as well as for special events, holidays, and seasons.
  • Conduct Resident Council Meetings on a monthly basis, recording issues discussed and follow-up; Keep records of meeting minutes.
  • Work closely with other departments as needed to facilitate a coordinated approach to resident needs.
  • Assist the residents and family with orientation and adjustment to the community.
  • Ensure completion and distribution of community's monthly newsletter and other news releases as deemed necessary and oversee the distribution of the newsletter.
  • Make equipment and supplies available and accessible to accommodate a resident who chooses to participate in a planned activity.
  • Oversee ordering of supplies and equipment necessary to implement Life Enrichment programs.
  • May use other equipment related to resident activity such as stove, oven, kitchen appliances, or arts & crafts related tools. May use an automobile or van for resident transport.
  • Prepare and submit the yearly budget for the Life Enrichment Department. Monitor the budget regularly through the use of spend-downs.
  • Process all invoices for payment in a prompt and timely manner. Accrue charges when appropriate to do so.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as requested
  • Perform other duties as designated by leader.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP) Certification preferred
  • Experience in adult/geriatric recreation preferred
  • Pursue training and development opportunities, attending educational opportunities to keep current in developments important to the success of the Life Enrichment program
  • Creative with and outgoing personality and the ability to speak in public settings
