Who We Are:
A collective of institutions and leaders, the African American Leadership Forum serves as a community innovation accelerator. We empower Black communities to imagine, then create an equitable future. As a think-and-do-tank for the state of Minnesota, we combine the functions of a think tank (like providing research and analysis of social/ political issues) with the action-oriented role of an activist organization.
What We Do:
Using data research and policy, discourse-driven convenings, design innovation, and strategic Leadership Development, The Forum drives for change by confronting racism and inequities, to improve the living standards of Black Minnesotans.

Education, Health, Public Safety, Economic Prosperity, Environmental Justice, and Generational Wealth Building.
Director of Leadership Development
The Director of Leadership Development will shape and manage external learning and development efforts. This leader will bring their vision and expertise in facilitating Black-affirming and Black-Centered leadership exploration and programming. Guiding the skills development and professional growth of the Dr. Josie R Johnson Leadership Academy fellows, supporting the expansion of the organization's cross-racial solidarity partnership, Linking Leaders, and creating additional Leadership Development opportunities are key components this role will own.
It is our near-term vision that by investing in the professional development of local Black leaders, we create a pipeline of leaders ready to architect and mobilize social movements in their communities. The Director of Leadership Development will use relevant frameworks anchored in racial equity that provide leaders tools and support in decision-making, power shifting, and systems movement. This leader will be responsible for co-designing and consulting with leaders in our community to deliver robust, Black-centered, Leadership Development opportunities for emerging and established Black leaders.
The Director of Leadership Development role reports to the Chief Strategic Engagement Officer and will be a part of the Strategic Engagement and Development Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the Director of Leadership Development, you will...
  • Design and develop a Leadership Development curriculum that develops Black leaders in organizational and systems change leadership, as well as personal development.
  • Lead program engagement and recruitment of program participants.
  • Partner, as needed, to enhance program design and experiential learning programs.
  • Develop opportunities for organizational partners to support and participate in programming and initiatives.
  • Measure and evaluate program performance to ensure departmental KPI's are met.
  • Gather feedback from and provide feedback to participants.
  • Partner with the Linking Leaders executive team to identify meaningful ways to integrate the solidarity framework into the organization's internal and external practices, strategy, and culture aligning with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Build relationships with Linking Leaders quartet members to build trust and understanding of each other's identities and cultures to set the groundwork for partnership.

  • Someone who has demonstrated project management experience and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An experienced educator, facilitator, and/or training professional.
  • A relationship-builder with a keen focus on leading with empathy, accountability, and community care.
  • A practitioner with current knowledge of contemporary learning practices, trends, and technologies.

REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree or 2 - 4 years of equivalent experience in any of the following fields: training and development, project management, facilitation, coalition building, social enterprise.
  • Demonstrated success as an educational leader or practitioner with an understanding of instructional pedagogy.
  • Tangible experience with program development/design, facilitation, and program management.
  • Experience with professional coaching and mentorship, organizational learning, and Leadership Development.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Experience using the Microsoft 365 Suite and cloud-based internet applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships while navigating complexity.
  • Forward-thinking, adaptive mindset with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

For our Leadership Development Director position, our salary range is $75,000 - $90,000. This role has been classified as a regular full-time, exempt role that is paid on a salaried basis.
