POSITION SUMMARY

TheDirector of Institutional Instructional Design is responsible for managing the university?s course Instructional Design needs, ensuring that the online courses produced meet Quality Matters standards via the university?s Quality Control Rubric (QCR). The Director provides faculty with course design support throughout the course writing process to create effective and engaging learning environments for students, informed by desired learning outcomes. The Director actively consults with faculty from diverse disciplines to identify course goals and implement appropriate evidence-based Instructional Design strategies. The Director also serves as the university?s LMS Administrator(Brightspace) and assists with the creation and facilitation of faculty professional development workshops as it pertains to course design, online teaching, and technology-enhanced instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Design

  • Develops and maintains relationships with university faculty and assists them throughout the online course writing process
  • Actively provides Instructional Design support to faculty through consultation with individuals and collaborative course design teams (associate dean or designee, subject matter expert (SME))
  • Ensures that the newly created online courses align with the Quality Matters standards, via the university?s Quality Control Rubric (QCR), before the courses are sent to the associate dean for final approval
  • Applies knowledge of effective pedagogies, Instructional Design processes, and educational technologies in course Design and delivery
  • Assists faculty with conversion of in-person courses to hybrid and online formats
  • Supervises Instructional Designer(s)

LMS Administrator

  • Serves as the university?s LMS administrator
  • Supports day-to-day operations of Brightspace including troubleshooting issues and maintenance (update links, check courses before going live, manage permissions, etc.)
  • Research, test and recommend educational technology tools
  • Trains faculty on Brightspace features and conducts other online technology instruction workshops
  • Participates in the Design and delivery of faculty professional development, as needed
  • Serves on comittees, project teams, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Senior Executive Officer and Dean of the School of Adult and Graduate Studies

Supervises: Instructional designer(s)

Internal OCU Relationships: Administrators, faculty, staff, support personnel

External Relationships: LMS account manager, Slingshot account manager, various textbook publishers as it pertains to online content (ex. McGraw Hill)

 

QUALIFICATIONS

According to Ohio Christian University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the OCU Community Lifestyle Statement.

  • Preferred Master?s degree in Insructional Design or related field.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of developing and delivering best practices in hyrbrid and online education, specifically for non-traditional adult learners.
  • Strong background in curriculum development, Instructional Design concepts and principles, learning theories (including adult learning theories), and online learning best practices, including Quality Matters.
  • Experience in developing and redesigning fully online and hybrid/blended courses.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies.
  • Expertise administering an LMS
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills
