Title: Director of Information Technology

Division: Advancement Services

FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

Starting annual salary: $120,000.00, commensurate with experience

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Information Technology (“Director”) oversees, plans and coordinates all activities related to the security, maintenance, support, upgrades, enhancements and customizations of the University of Hawai‘i Foundation’s (“UHF”) enterprise CRM and financial information systems, auxiliary systems, and system infrastructure. The Director is responsible for sustaining relationships with vendors, and for keeping abreast of emerging information systems technologies, best practices and processes. The Director will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills and knowledge of best practices to guide their development and support team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of enterprise applications and system infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversee and evaluate the deployment of all hardware, software, and systems from various perspectives, including cost-effectiveness, customer satisfaction, compliance, asset management, and performance.

Develop and implement the organization’s technology budget; evaluate internal IT systems for performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction; and oversee and manage all accounts, contracts, and financial issues related to the department.

Maintain good working relationships with vendors and consultants.

Coordinate with the executive management team and the compliance office to monitor and validate the organization’s compliance with its security policies, which includes but is not limited to FERPA and PCI compliance.

Oversee the maintenance and reliability of the organization’s enterprise systems and supporting environments, including systems such as: CRM, CMS, and FIS.

Oversee application and system documentation and training.

Oversee help desk support, for internal constituents, with some external constituents.

Oversee network architecture and infrastructure.

Lead IT governance.

Ensure cybersecurity, disaster recovery, risk management policies and processes are adhered to and are regularly reviewed for relevancy and adequacy; implement changes to existing policies and procedures, and develop new policies and procedures, as needed.

Identify and coordinate the creation and implementation of custom applications to support development and back office operational efficiency.

Oversee employee hardware and software standardization, periodically evaluating as necessary; ensure proper asset management.

Coordinate technology projects with other departments and outside entities.

Serve as UHF’s primary project manager for enterprise system transitions and upgrades.

Oversee the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and growth of all technology staff, and ensure that the department structure supports the organization’s needs and goals.

Review the business requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs, regularly reviewing the effectiveness of technologies in use.

Develop and maintain strategic and operational plans for technology that are aligned with best practices, departmental needs, UHF values, and organizational culture.

Anticipate the needs of diverse constituents, monitoring technology trends and innovations in the industry and making actionable recommendations.

Perform other duties and activities in support of the UHF mission as requested.

EVALUATION

The Director will meet annually with his/her supervisor to put in place a plan for the year. At the end of each year, the Director and his/her supervisor will review progress toward the annual goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or other related field, or relevant work experience.
  • At least 5 years enterprise technology leadership experience.
  • Excellent partnering, and collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and concisely to business owners and end-users.
  • Extensive technical knowledge in areas of IT security, network components, reporting systems, computer operating systems, protocols, and standards.
  • Excellent budgeting skills with the ability to plan strategically and cost-effectively and prioritize resources.
  • Proven supervisory and staff development skills, coupled with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
  • Ability to evangelize and educate on process, strategy, and investments to achieve enterprise business and application strategy.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems creatively without guidance.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in higher education.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Based at the First Interstate Building at 1314 S. King Street, Suite B, Honolulu, HI 96814, the Director of Information Technology will work primarily in an office environment and will need to sit or stand for extended periods while either working at a computer, attending a meeting, or performing desk work. The Director may need to visit areas of the University campus, as well as locations in and around O‘ahu. The Director must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record or must have an acceptable mode of transportation. The Director may need to work weekends and evenings and must be able to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40-hour work we
