The Department of Dermatology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is recruiting a board-certified dermatologist to serve as Director of Hospital-based Dermatology.
The Department of Dermatology at Brown is the largest academic and non-profit faculty group providing comprehensive dermatologic care in the State of Rhode Island extending to Southern Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut. The dermatology clinical service spans two health systems/seven hospitals (Lifespan and Care New England) and the Providence VA. The patient-mix is broad, transcending general dermatology, inpatient dermatology, community dermatology, complex medical, pediatric, procedural and aesthetic dermatology. An all-encompassing Department, Brown Dermatology has its own Division of Dermatopathology, Division of Procedural Dermatology and Mohs Surgery and the Division of Pediatric Dermatology. The faculty lead community out-reach programs regionally (Rhode Island Free Clinic, Sun Smarts Program) and internationally (Amman, Jordan through the International Medical Corps and Eldoret, Kenya through AMPATH). There are myriad teaching opportunities available to faculty across the medical school and dermatology residency training program and through advanced fellowships, e.g. Dermatology-Rheumatology/Complex Medical Dermatology Fellowship, Derm-Epi Research Fellowship and Dermatopathology Fellowship.
Site description: Rhode Island Hospital (RIH) is a 719-bed academic hospital, Level 1 Trauma and Burn Center, and the principal teaching hospital of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, located in Providence, Rhode Island. RIH is directly attached to the outpatient Brown Dermatology center, the Ambulatory Patient Care Center, 10th Floor.
Position description: We seek a colleague in dermatology with tremendous passion for hospital-based dermatology to continue to build and grow the consult service at RIH as well as develop relationships across other medical and surgical services across the system:
- Outpatient and inpatient dermatologic care; specific protected time and salary for inpatient consults.
- Provide daytime dermatologic consultative hospital care for RIH, including the inpatient floors and emergency room.
- Work closely with the dedicated full-time dermatology consult resident to triage consults and provide in-person and teledermatology consultative care.
- Supervise and educate Brown Dermatology residents and other trainee rotators (non-dermatologic residents and medical students).
- Nights/weekend call, shared amongst dermatology faculty.
