The Ansonborough Inn, a AAA Four Diamond hotel tucked away in the heart of Charleston's historic downtown district, is undergoing an extensive renovation and repositioning set to relaunch as The Ansonborough Charleston in spring 2024. Drawing from the hotel's natural exuberance and wonders of what was once Charles Town, The Ansonborough Charleston will stand as an homage to the city's rich history, proudly embodying the vibrant spirit of Charleston's oldest neighborhood. The boutique 45-room property will feature revitalized indoor and outdoor spaces, including an expanded neighborhood bar and lounge offering artisanal cocktails, beers, wines and light bites and a new beautiful rooftop garden with generous open seating areas appointed with local plant life and fireplaces perfect for guests and small social gatherings.
Summary:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Food and Beverage, plays an essential role in developing an industry leading Food and Beverage experience, promoting the property brand, and engaging with local personalities and Charleston influencers to ensure an unforgettable guest experience.
F&B Responsibilities:
- Prepares the department’s annual budget; continually monitors all F&B department’s performance as compared to budget and makes necessary adjustments in order to maximize profitability, at the direction of the General Manager.
- Schedules staff according to projected occupancy levels; labor standards; continually monitor labor costs.
- Orders and receives supplies to maintain par levels (adequate levels) of F&B inventory.
- Conducts scheduled inventory of supplies and equipment per company standard.
- Ensures the policies and procedures of the F&B Department, relating to quality of products and services, meet compliance standards.
- Maintains communication with other departments regarding F&B events and activities.
- Assists with marketing strategies and/or sales promotions, including marketing materials.
- Plans menus and incorporates a menu pricing structure that supports the bottom-line goals; analyzes food costs and Beverage costs with respect profit margins and makes recommendations.
- Responds to and resolves any and all guest issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintains effective departmental communication as well as recognition programs through the use of stand-up meetings, staff meetings, logbooks, bulletin boards, hand-outs, flyers, and any other applicable means.
- May perform duties of any F&B Team Member as needed.
- Maintains positive ongoing relationships with guests and vendors, as well as influencers, journalists and media outlets.
- Stays current on city events, attractions, and sightseeing opportunities.
- Plans events, lobby activities, and parties.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.
- 2-3 years’ experience in a comparable role within the hospitality industry, preferably in F&B.
- Familiar and active with social media analytics and metrics tracking preferred (influencer is a plus).
Job Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Requires knowledge of general business operations – budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, staffing.
- Outstanding organization skills and management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in group meetings, discussions and by telephone.
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to understand complex relationships.
- Ability to convert product details into viable content marketing strategies.
- Advanced computer skills required (Excel, Outlook, Word); DOS-based experience a plus.
- Requires availability on weekends and / or holidays, possible overtime, and possibly alternating shift work.
Job Environment:
- Primarily indoors or within hotel facilities.
- Requires significant walking and standing for entire shift.
- Some light lifting required.
- Frequent reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, squatting, kneeling when performing duties of cook, bartender, server, busser or other F&B position.
