Job Summary
he Direc or of CNS Firs Year Advising will be responsible for he developmen , func ioning, and supervision of he Firs Year Advising Program ha suppor s all CNS firs year undergradua es. he Direc or of CNS Firs Year Advising assis s s uden s, facul y, advisors, and paren s wi h issues such as orien a ion, academic programming, and advising rela ing o progress wi hin a degree program. In consul a ion wi h CNS s uden success eam, he Direc or of CNS Firs Year Advising will develop, implemen , promo e and assess s uden success needs and ini ia ives.
Essen ial Func ions

  • Oversee Firs Year Advising
    • Serve as direc supervisor of all Firs Year Advisors.
    • Collabora e wi h Universi y leadership in he developmen and execu ion of he college level orien a ion programming and advising services for CNS incoming firs -year s uden s. Manage all Firs Year Advising ac ivi ies for he college, using da a analysis o design effec ive sys ems.
    • Oversee Firs Year Advising s aff.
      • Develop and lead recrui men , onboarding, raining, and ongoing suppor sys ems for Firs Year Advisors and peer advisors.
      • Dissemina ion of relevan policy informa ion, ini ia ives or direc ives o firs year advisors.
      • Work in conjunc ion wi h he Associa e and Assis an Deans o prepare and conduc Firs Year Advisor mee ings.
      • Manage communica ions and campaigns for he Firs Year Advising Program. Coordina e he schedule of campaigns for specific firs year cohor s wi h firs year advisors. Collec da a and assess he effec iveness of campaign effor s.
      • Prepara ion and oversigh of CNS Firs Year Advising budge .
      • Suppor advisor professional developmen .

    • Assis in developmen and execu ion of specialized advising programs o suppor and men or s uden s on academic aler , warning, and proba ion.
    • Respond o and manage high-s ress and sensi ive inquiries from paren s in accordance wi h FERPA.
    • Assis higher risk s uden s and s uden s wi h specialized needs wi h he suppor of he academic deans.
    • Represen CNS on commi ees and councils; par icipa e in evening and weekend ac ivi ies including Fall Visi Days, Des ina ion Days, Senior Celebra ion, Undergradua e Commencemen , and o her ac ivi ies and even s ha may be developed.
    • Serve as par of he New S uden s Orien a ion and ransi ion (NSO ) leadership eam.
      • Work wi h CNS s aff o develop and deliver CNS con en during NSO .
      • Assis wi h advising during NSO .
      • S ra egic planning, developmen , and assessmen of advising, re en ion, and gradua ion ini ia ives.
  • Coordina e he CNS Firs Year Seminar (FYS)Program
    • Par icipa e in he CNS FYS curriculum design, course offerings, ins ruc or compensa ion, and assessmen . his includes regular collabora ion wi h s akeholders o recrui and rain seminar ins ruc ors, schedule he course sec ions, and assess he ins ruc or and program effec iveness.

  • Serve as Academic Dean as needed including bu no limi ed o mee ing wi h s uden s in academic jeopardy, wi hdrawing from he universi y, or pe i ioning for excep ions o academic regula ions.

Minimum Qualifica ions (Knowledge, Skills, Abili ies, Educa ion, Experience, Cer ifica ions, Licensure)
  • Mas er's degree in a science, educa ion, or rela ed field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in college level programs focused on s uden success and progress.
  • Managemen and supervisory experience.
  • S rong oral and wri en communica ion skills.
  • Previous experience serving or working wi h a cul urally diverse popula ion.
  • Demons ra ed experience and apprecia ion for curren principles and me hods of academic advising.
  • Demons ra ed commi men o con inued learning or professional developmen on diversi y, equi y, and jus ice issues.
  • Able o fulfill responsibili ies in a fas -paced environmen .

Preferred Qualifica ions (Knowledge, Skills, Abili ies, Educa ion, Experience, Cer ifica ions, Licensure)
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a science, educa ion, or rela ed field.
  • Able o successfully in erac wi h a s uden body represen ing a range of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Unders anding and apprecia ion of science and science educa ion including he synergy be ween research and he undergradua e experience a he universi y.
  • Unders anding of and apprecia ion for he goals and values of an undergradua e liberal ar s educa ion wi hin a major research universi y.

Work Schedule
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.
  • Some nigh s and weekends.
  • his posi ion has he oppor uni y for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by he Universi y as an arrangemen where an employee's work is regularly performed a a loca ion o her han he campus workspace for a por ion of he week.
