Position: Director of Financial Aid | Full-Time position
Department: Academics
Reports To: Vice President of Academic Life/Chief Academic OfficerSummaryLouisburg College is currently seeking a Director of Financial Aid. As the only two-year residential college in North Carolina, Louisburg College has been serving students for over 233 years. Our campus, a short distance from Raleigh, North Carolina, is in historic Louisburg, North Carolina. We invite qualified candidates to consider applying for this rewarding opportunity.The Director will be responsible for the administration of an established Financial Aid program (federal, state, and institutional funds) that adheres to the regulations with integrity along with upholding the mission and vision of Louisburg College. This position includes monitoring budgets, providing Financial Aid-related advisement, and establishing policies and procedures in compliance with current federal, state, and institutional guidelines. The Director of Financial Aid coordinates, plans, and oversees the application and award processes of Financial Aid for undergraduate students; coordinates veterans’ benefits; and supervises one full-time Financial Aid Counselor.Essential Functions
  • Directs all Financial Aid functions with the purpose of enrolling and maintaining a diverse student body and institutional eligibility for continued participation in Federal and State aid programs.

  • Maintains the Department of Education Program Participation Agreement in updating staff members, submitting additional programs, and any substantive changes to the institution organization.

  • Ensures the institution maintains the compliance standards set forth by the Department of Education and the State of North Carolina.

  • Creates and maintains a customer service-based focus for the Office of Financial Aid and coordinates efforts with the Controller, Registrar, Admissions, and other offices on campus.

  • Directs the administration of Financial Aid; ensures applicants receive assistance in the application process for loans, grants, and scholarships. Makes awards to current and incoming students while adhering to Title IV regulations, state and federal guidelines, private non-profit agencies, institutional packaging policy, and budget parameters.

  • Oversees the administration of private, state, and/or federal loan programs; coordinates the awarding of need-based scholarships/grants and the renewal of merit-based awards.

  • Collaborates with the Vice President of Academic Life and CFO to administer foundation scholarship funds.

  • Resolves C-Flags and conflicts between applications for aid and supporting documentation.

  • Review files for federal verification and professional judgment.

  • Provides estimates of a pre-award amount for Federal Work-Study and Work College funds.

  • Directs the completion of reports to request funding and document expenditures. Reports include but are not limited to FISAP, IPEDS, CFNC for NC funds, Pell, and direct lending, and may include contributing to or preparing marketing reports such as Peterson, FISKE, and US News.

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates department staff. Works with staff to assign responsibilities, determine department priorities and procedures, and ensure cross-training occurs.

  • Plans and directs the presentation and enforcement of policies and forms (i.e. Return of Title IV, Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards, Verification forms, etc.).

  • Participates in off-campus training when available and as needed. Attends the Department of Education’s Annual FAS Conference (fall) and any NC state meetings (usually mandatory). Attends training and professional development meetings as needed to stay abreast of regulations and changes.

  • Maintains contact with outside agencies to finalize aid for participating students.

  • Represents Louisburg College during audits: Federal Program Review, North Carolina State Approving Agency, North Carolina Higher Education Assistance Authority, Department of Veteran Affairs, and the annual external audit prepared for the United States Department of Education and the State of North Carolina.

  • Works with the CFO to review appeal cases, special circumstances, and college-wide Financial Aid policy.

  • Participate in several Open House opportunities, FAFSA Day, and other institutional events that promote student success.

  • Conduct Financial Aid Workshops at various high schools, college fairs, and on campus.

  • Serve as the institution representative for Financial Aid to both internal and external constituencies.

  • Responsible for the Financial Aid Policies and Procedures Manual, which includes all aspects of Financial Aid, including an annual review and modification as required.

  • Serves on institutional committees as needed.

  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in public or business administration.

  • Five years of experience in Financial Aid preferred.

  • Knowledge of Title IV guidelines for the administration of federal aid.

  • Experience with or the ability to learn the technical requirements/participation in Title IV WAN.

  • Effective interpersonal skills required.

  • Strong commitment to customer service.

  • Excellent computer skills, knowledge of software, and ability to learn new systems.

  • Time management, organizational skills, and a desire to interact with students are required.

  • Familiar with all Department of Education software initiatives including, but not limited to, EdConnect, Common Origination and Disbursement, Financial Aid Access to CPS Online, and National Student Loan Data System.

  • Familiar with CAMS and PowerFAIDS.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
