Company Purpose/Mission:
Roy Maas Youth Alternatives (RMYA) creates brighter futures for children in crisis by promoting individual success and healthy relationships in a safe, healing environment, giving children and families the tools to end the cycle of abuse. RMYA provides treatment programs for traumatized children who most often are victims of sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse. RMYA supports using trauma-informed techniques and relationship-based approaches to create a safe environment that provides consistency, structure, and caring for the children we serve.

Job Summary:
The Director of Facilities is responsible for supervising, managing, and directing the maintenance department and for managing the design, planning, construction and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings, and other facilities as well as planning, budgeting and scheduling facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor materials and other related costs of RMYAs campuses. The position will be responsible for contributing to the development of the strategic plan and budget and for the execution of the plan. The Director of Facilities coordinates with the residential and support services staff as well as educators and other interested parties to provide the effective delivery of all necessary services.

Management and Administration:
1. Manage department expenses over which control exists to leverage each resource to its highest use. Ensure all staff execute payroll responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with established procedures.
2. Facilitates meetings and workshops, etc. for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a department representative.
3. Monitor budget allocations, expenditures (maintain vendor list and current products), fund balances and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate (including annual commodity dollars awarded), revenues are recorded,
expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed. Ensure (applicable) employee meals are charged.
4. Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
5. Perform personnel functions (e.g., interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and achieving objectives within budget.
6. Present information (e.g., available grant funding, budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) to the CFO for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
7. Ensure federal and state contract compliance, timely completion of tasks, and satisfactory sub-contractor performance of any construction or remodeling projects.
8. Purchase supplies, equipment, materials, parts, contract services, and professional services needed for the operations of the facilities and maintain inventories.
9. Prepare plans, material lists, and estimates for renovation projects.
10. Ensure service reports are prepared and filed within deadlines.
11. Attend bi-monthly Director’s Meetings to get maintenance updates from the Program Directors.
12. Monitor and verify timecards, control the use of overtime when developing staff schedules, and use appropriate discretion when recommending the approval of time off.

Function Management:
1. Oversee day to day operations and ensure all general maintenance and repair requests are completed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations, and federal, state and local codes to maintain compliance with licensing & COA standards.
2. Conducts building rounds on a regular basis.
3. Serve as foreman and be responsible for ensuring all general maintenance, custodial, construction, and remodeling of all campuses are done accordingly with special emphasis on maintaining licensing and preventative maintenance.
4. Evaluates work to be performed and determines best method for performance of work.
5. Issues workorders and ensures work orders are closed out timely in system.
6. Supervise and assist residents doing work related to grounds or maintenance when possible.
7. Manages preventive maintenance of facility equipment, including HVAC and office equipment.
8. Oversee auto maintenance and repairs such as oil changes, minor tune ups, replacing fuses, belts, bulbs, etc. are completed routinely as needed or scheduled.
9. Monitor the fire safety systems—fire extinguishers, fire alarms, fire exits, etc.

Relationships and Collaboration:
1. Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g., other administrators, auditors, public agencies, community members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
2. Assist in being liaison with city, county, and state, as it relates to fire, security, and occupational safety.
3. Represent RMYA in a professional manner at approved events in the community, gatherings, workshops, and trainings.
4. Maintain professional and ethical standards as prescribed by RMYA.
5. Maintain confidentiality in all areas of client and program operations.
6. Maintain personally required training hours, and attend and participate in all training workdays or continuing education as assigned.
7. Be supportive of all RMYA policies and procedures, and actively participate in their development by proposing changes and updates as well as working on teams designed to improve how we work together.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
1. Formally evaluate performance of own staff
2. Recommend salary actions for own staff
3. Direct work assignments for own staff
4. Involved in the interviewing and hiring of own staff
5. Involved in the selection and promotion of internal staff into own department
6. Involved in the disciplining and discharge process of own staff
7. Responsible for training own staff
8. Authorize and approve overtime work of own staff

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in management or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years management/supervisory experience. Minimum 3 years working at multi-unit facility.
  • Certification/Licenses: Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Must have and maintain acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of constant sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Few opportunities to relax during shifts; constant writing, reading, typing, walking, standing, driving, reaching, kneeling, climbing, grasping; frequent sitting, twisting, arm and wrist rotation, crouching, squatting, lifting, and carrying at least 50 pounds; occasional crawling, pushing, pulling, pinching, confrontations with distressed youth. In person attendance with face shield/mask required.

  • Work Environment: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Shifts in environmental conditions i.e., hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, noise, glare, moving objects, working at heights, slippery surfaces, congested areas, sharp edges, fumes/vapors/gases, electromagnetic fields. Fast-pace work using sensory demands i.e., hearing, vision, speech, spatial perception, tactile, smell, taste; dealing with multiple, complex and repetitive tasks, working under pressure and deadlines, attention to detail and precise standards, working alone and in groups, irregular hours, travelling, and confrontational situations. May be requested to work overtime and weekends for special program events.
