Position: Director of Exceptional Programs
Supervisor: Executive Director of Support Services
General Job Description: The Director of Exceptional Programs shall be responsible for facilitating the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision of
learning that reflects excellence and equity for all students throughout the school system. He/She shall possess a performance mindset, and engage a variety of stakeholders to
support the goals of the Farmington Municipal Schools Strategic Plan. He/She shall perform such duties as delegated by the Executive Director of Support Services:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Promotes and sustains a safe, supportive, and collaborative culture across the Exceptional Programs Office, schools, students, families and the community.
2. Fosters a culture of continuous improvement focused upon effective teaching in every classroom.
3. Ensures guaranteed, viable, and equitable curriculum for students with disabilities, students identified as gifted, and students in need of enrichment.
4. Works across the district to promote the creation of clear and measurable goals for individual students; implements systems to monitor progress, analyze, and interpret growth and achievement.
5. Uses excellent management and leadership skills to ensure academic success and access to the learning environment for all students.
6. Engages the EPO staff by leveraging their collective efforts to construct effective and efficient procedures and protocols designed to achieve sustainable results.
7. Develops and implements robust professional development opportunities in alignment with the FMS Strategic Plan for EPO staff, special education teachers, teachers of the gifted, and school leaders.
8. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Support Services.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Is responsible for working with building principals in providing technical assistance in implementing the requirements for services within the Exceptional Programs Office for all students that qualify.
2. Demonstrates analytical and conceptual thinking to evaluate and meet programneeds across Farmington Schools.
3. Is responsible for obligations of current and future grants, and state and/or federal directives concerning EPO programming, including requirements for planning, budgeting and reporting.
4. Works with the district testing coordinator to implement student assessment in accordance with IDEA. Reports and works with the teams in each building to interpret results in relation to student achievement.
5. Participates in Director-level professional learning communities in order to gain and share best practices; disseminates current information related to the work of EPO to the district leaders, EPO staff, and school teams.
6. Is responsible for student membership reporting, in partnership with FMS's data management specialist.
Qualifications: Master's degree in education, valid NM administrative license as required by the State of New Mexico, SPED certification, 5 years of experience in public school administration and supervision and/or teaching. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type ob a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture may be required.
Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to.learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.After-hours work may be required.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
