Early Childhood Director Job Description

Personal Qualifications

  • The Director must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, and be able to relate to the staff and children with Christian love, respect, acceptance, patience and grace.

  • Be an active participant and a witness to faith through word and action.

  • Support the vision and mission of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.

  • Be committed to growing the school as a vital ministry of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.

Serve as the primary advocate and representative of the Early Childhood Center ministry to the

  • congregation and in outreach to the community.

Professional Qualifications

  • The Director must meet or exceed the State of Texas qualifications:

    (Taken from Texas Minimum Standards, pp. 3-1& 3-2))

  • He or she must be at least 21 years of age and have an associate in applied sciences degree in child development or a related degree with 6 college credit hours in child development and 6 college credit hours in business management and two years in a licensed child-care facility; or

  • Have a Child Development Associate credential with 6 college credit hours in business management and two year experience in a licensed child-care facility; or

  • Have 60 college credit hours with at least 9 credit hours in child development or Early Childhood education or the equivalent and 6 credit hours in business management and 2 years experience in a licensed child-care facility; or

  • Have a day care administrator’s credential issued by professional organizations or educational institutions that are recognized by the Licensing Division based on published criteria and 2 years of experience in a licensed child-care facility; or

  • Have 3 years experience in a licensed child-care facility and 9 credit hours in childcare, child development or Early Childhood education and 9 credit hours in business management from an accredited college or university. Have five continuing education units (C.E.U.’s) may be substituted for each 3 credit hours; or

  • Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with

  • 12 credit hours of child development or Early Childhood education, 6 credit hours of business

    management and one year of experience in a licensed child-care facility.

Professional Responsibilities

The Director shall:

Assume responsibility for finances

  • Assist in preparing annual budget and operate within the budget. Purchase equipment & supplies
  • Prepare monthly/Yearly financial reports
  • Arrange for collection of fees & tuition
  • Handle petty cash

Maintain communication & relationships with parents

  • Develop systematic parent‐school communication (communication apps, weekly email, phone communication, website)
  • Orient parents to school policies & procedures Plan/administer parent education/fellowship programs Inform parents of progress & needs of the children
  • Recruit & enroll new children
  • Promote ECC in the congregation & community
  • Provide enrollment materials that reflect program's goals Create & maintain publicity materials & activities
  • Guide and direct newly enrolled children

Supervise & assist staff

  • Assist in preparing job descriptions for teachers and helpers
  • Train and develop staff
  • Recruit & hire staff with pastoral approval
  • Periodically review staff performance; assist staff members to set goals for professional growth Arrange substitute help as needed
  • Lead regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Plan and conduct periodic in‐service training for staff
  • Help staff prepare program plans

Plan & implement procedures to keep accurate classroom records Prepare & update staff handbook

  • Keep personnel records
  • Develop & maintain resource library for staff
  • E. Administer all aspects of programs
  • Contact state & local regulatory agencies; conform to & exceed all regulations
  • Handle all administration & conflict‐resolutions related to programs
  • Maintain student & program records
  • Define policies of admission, attendance, payment of fees, educational goals
  • Keep informed on current ECC issues & developments
  • Participate actively in professional organizations
  • Build and maintain an up to date Early Childhood program
  • Maintain proper conditions for health & safety
  • Keep health history, & immunization records for children & staff
  • Plan & purchase foods for healthful snacks
  • Monitor all classroom & playground conditions to ensure safety
  • Provide a Christian environment where God's love is shared with children, personnel, and parents
  • Equip indoor & outdoor areas to reflect a Christian environment
  • Provide an environment appropriate for young children
  • Plan age-appropriate, Christ-centered, faith-integrated curriculum
  • Maintain communication and relationship with St. Andrew Lutheran Church
  • Attend staff meetings regularly
  • Attend church and school events at the church
  • Coordinate staff and children’s participation in
  • The Director is also responsible for the general administrative and operational functions within the school, and he or she shall take care to
  • Implement the program of the St. Andrew Early Childhood Center in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Center.
  • Maintain a professional attitude, while showing loyalty to the Center and Church at all times.

    About St. Andrew

    St. Andrew is currently opening at 6 week through 4 year old program with after school care up to 7th grade. As we begin planning for our next season of ministry, we are hopeful our new director will help us evaluate and build a program that accurately reflects our quickly changing neighborhood. St. Andrew is located in the Spring Branch neighborhood 10 miles west of downtown Houston. Spring Branch is experiencing rapid growth with many families desiring Early Childhood care. We believe St. Andrew Early Childhood center can be a place where the community can experience family and where children can learn and grow in age appropriate environments. The church and staff are committed to the education of our neighborhood and we are hopeful St. Andrew Early Childhood center can be a major part of the neighborhood for the next 30 years.

    Start Date: St. Andrew is committed to finding the right person and can start as early as May 1st or as late as August 1st 2023

    Salary: Between $45,000 and $55,000 a year with benefits
