Director of  DK-12 Student Services 

Position Title: Director of DK-12 Student Services
Department: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment District 
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Instruction

Summary:
The Director ofStudent Services is a creative, dynamic, and thoughtful leader who works to fulfill the mission and vision of Harper Creek CommunitySchool District. The Director ofStudent Services will be responsible for supporting the facilitation of an inclusive model for Student Services, that is based upon best practices, the district's philosophy and meets the needs of all students. The Director ofStudent Services directs the planning, development, organization, management, direction, and implementation of all aspects of Student Services for the District which include, but are not limited to: PBIS implementation, Providing District wide multi-tiered disciplined systems of support, DK-12 career/college planning, social-emotional programming and team development.  Furthermore, the Director ofStudent Services assures compliance with all laws, codes, and regulations related to Student Services; evaluates assigned personnel, and collaborates/provides support to administrative and professional staff in meeting identified instructional goals of the District. The Director ofStudent Services is a strategic thinker and a proactive leader who models strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills, as well as an unwavering commitment and energy to sustain momentum in the district's journey towards innovative teaching and learning practices for all learners. 
Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Master Degree in school Counseling, Administration or related field
  • Five years of  administration/supervisor and staff evaluation  experience preferred 
  • Strong understandings of how to implement systems and routines that use data to drive improvements: MiMTSS and MTMDSS as examples
  • Strong background in career/college readiness  and instruction, including MDE K-12 career development plan development
  • Strong background in social-emotional learning competencies and school culture development
  • Experience working with social, emotional, and behavioral intervention teams 
  • Trained or willing to be trained in Cognitive Coaching, Adaptive Schools and Restorative Practices, and Positive Behavior Supports (PBIS)
  • In-depth knowledge of effective student engagement and creation of healthy classroom culture and climate 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Utilize systems thinking to improve organizational structures and maximize human and financial resources to implement structured systems of support across buildings for social emotional and behavioral needs (MiMTSS/MTMDSS) 
  • Collaboratively manage change processes using the four support functions from Cognitive Coaching
  • Use Cognitive Coaching to empower staff and students 
  • Leader in developing processes, routines and forms for child study process that is aligned to MiMTSS 
  • District leader for our crisis response team
  • Design and manage a data collection plan to drive improvements
  • Create a positive workplace culture and climate that is focused on the district's mission and vision
  • Assist with the work focused on inclusive practices, which embraces all learners as valued members of the school community, and ensures that children who need additional interventions or intensive support can learn alongside their peers in their neighborhood school. 
  • Assist in planning budgetary resources for the programs 
  • Assist in establishing long term and short term goals for implementation plans and district growth for DK-12 career/college preparedness
  • Ability to build a vision for Student Services and supporting systems such as Special Education/504 that aligns with the district mission and values and builds and leads an effective team to help achieve it
  • Ability to effectively and consistently communicate with all stakeholders, including parents and outside agencies 
  •  Ability to leverage and build the talents of those on your team, while providing effective coaching in identified growth areas.  
  • Strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills
  • Evaluate personnel and assist in the determination of goals to improve performance
  • Work with the Associate Superintendent for Instruction  to support teachers to ensure instructional improvement and maintain highest instructional standards for all students.
  • Support alternative learning settings for students as appropriate 
  • Attend district and administrative meetings, Board and Committee meetings, and other meetings or events as assigned.
  • Serve as the District Homeless Liaison
  • Conduct training for administrators,  counselors and all serving as student support personnel.
  •  Supervise and  meet regularly with the district counselors and student support specialist to help guide, coach, and problem solve 
  •  Effectively communicate with all parents regarding the needs of all students, and comply with communication protocols for special education student needs 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Will support and evaluate all district counselors, student support specialists for the district. 
Education and/or Experience
M.A. in counseling or educational leadership. Prior supervisory work experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid counseling or administrative certificate 
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports,
and legal documents. Ability to prepare and present information to a variety of stakeholder
groups, including the Board of Education.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work through a budgeting and allocation of funds process involving $1,000,000.00, calculate percentages, other basic algebra skills and processes.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.  Ability to 
communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
