Job Summary and Qualifications

The Director of CAMS Analytics takes the lead role with facilities, divisions, groups and corporate leadership as it relates to data management, analytics, reporting and technology for the evaluation and prioritization of the capital investment decision process. Provide strategic analytical leadership in the areas of market planning and research, enterprise capacity utilization, capital project development (ranging from $5 million to $100 million) and the tracking of Capital projects across the enterprise. The role acts as the key contact within Capital deployment and other corporate departments as it relates to the prospective and retrospective analysis of the Capital Asset Management data sources and relevant metrics. Oversight over the management of departmental and enterprise data repositories to continually improve the processes and functions to maintain the highest level of data integrity for enterprise level analytics and senior management reporting.

What you will do:

  • Experience, knowledge and credibility in healthcare/hospital operations, finance, statistics and information technology to strategically build out and deploy enterprise analytical solutions.
  • Expertise in data management– translating the goals and business requirements of the Capital investment decision process and envisioning the needs of senior management to build agile, scalable analytical software solutions with focus on data integrity and data quality.
  • Design analytical protocols and conduct cost-effective analysis– Possess a deep understanding of the data structures of the enterprise IT systems (financial, clinical, operational, market discharges and projections etc.), Business Intelligence tools and third-party vendors (stratasan, sg2, eBuilder etc.) and leverage the inter-dependencies in building solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of database tools (SQL, Teradata), business intelligence tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik), data analysis and statistics (SPSS, R, regression modelling), GIS tools (ArcGIS, Google APIs), process improvement (Lean Six Sigma) and programming (R, Python).
  • Responsible for leading the development, implementation and execution of enterprise wide Capacity Utilization metrics (ADC, ALOS, Occupancy) for major operational areas– Inpatient, ED, OR and Imaging etc.
  • Market based demographic analysis of volume drivers, anticipated utilization rates by service line. Identification of optimum markets for capital development combining capacity needs with high-growth markets.
  • Capital Project Development – Responsible for providing the strategic analytical support to the development of Capital project scope in identifying the most cost effective solution that meets the operational goals.
  • Oversight of CAMS Analytic project portfolio including but not limited to (1) development of facility specific service area definitions and maps, (2) Analysis of throughput statistics to inform planning standards and metrics, (3) Subject matter expert in market analysis tools to supplement the analysis performed on proposed capital projects, (4) Incremental EBITDA and volume reporting that are included in the annual budgeting process, (5) Adhoc requests related to senior management, board and investor reporting.
  • Provide Leadership and support to the analytical needs of the Capital Deployment department– by working with the Building Capital, Design/Construction/Equipment and Engineering teams.
  • Leads the development of special projects (e.g., McKinsey-requested data analysis projects) and provides support to other corporate departments (CSG, SRG, OSG etc.) as needed
  • Identify and lead opportunities to improve and streamline the existing processes with technology to proactively identify the capacity constraints across various modalities.
  • Cross-trains with CAMS department planners, analysts and the reporting team by periodically evaluating project portfolio and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contributes to and improves the methodologies, templates, and functionality of various data repositories.
  • Research and keep current knowledge of competitive dynamics in the healthcare, finance and IT
  • Recognizes opportunities and problems, generates appropriate solutions and ideas, and as necessary, escalates issues to the AVP of CAMS.
  • Ability to interact with Senior Management. Must be proficient in written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Builds and maintains strong, effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders across HCA.
  • Familiarity with HCA financial (Essbase, Vista, ArcPlan), clinical and operations systems and Enterprise IT analytics infrastructure. Microsoft suite.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in heathcare planning and analytics required
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare planning and analytics preferred
  • Certified Business Intelligence Professional or Certified Analytics Professional preferred
  • Certificate in Lean Six Sigma preferred
  • Certified Professional – Tableau/PowerBI/Qlik preferred
  • This job may require travel from time-to-time, but not on a regular basis.
