Description

Charlotte Latin School has an opening for our Director of Alumni Relations and Giving.  This position plays a critical role in bridging the past and present of the Charlotte Latin School community, ensuring that alums remain a dynamic and integral part of the school's legacy and future growth.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy:

  • Cultivating Relationships: Actively work to build and strengthen connections with alumni, encouraging their ongoing engagement and financial support.

  • Fundraising Strategy: Collaborate with the Philanthropy Office and strategize for annual and capital fundraising initiatives to boost alumni contributions.

  • Alumni Giving Programs: Manage alumni appeals, including the Collins Cup challenge, and oversee the True Blue Giving Society for leading alumni donors. Manage the alumni strategy and implementation for the CLS day of giving, Fly Day.

  • Event Participation: Work to increase alum participation in key events and promote mentorship and volunteerism among alums.

Alumni Programs and Events:

  • Event Planning and Management: Organize alumni events such as Reunion Weekend, alumni games, networking events, and art shows to maintain a vibrant alumni network.

  • Hall of Fame Oversight: Manage the Athletic Hall of Fame, held biennially, recognizing outstanding alumni athletes.

Alumni Communications:

  • Communications Strategy: Develop and implement an alumni communications plan to support engagement, utilizing social media, newsletters, and the school magazine.

  • Marketing Collaboration: Work with the Marketing and Communications team to design print materials to enhance Alumni Relations.

Alumni Governing Board (AGB):

  • Board Facilitation: Facilitate AGB meetings and collaborate with subcommittees to further diversity, networking, and philanthropy goals.

  • DEI Alliance: Partner with the DEI team to create and support alliance groups within the alumni based on culture or shared identity.

Class Agents and Mentorship:

  • Class Agent Recruitment: Recruit class agents to lead their peers in engagement and Giving efforts.

  • Promoting Mentorship: Encourage alums to serve as mentors and volunteers within the alumni community.

Graduation and Student Engagement:

  • School Events: Maintain connections with alums who may have an interest or talent in participating in various school events, including speaking engagements and graduation ceremonies.

  • Student Transition: Educate graduating students about the alumni community and the benefits of staying connected.

Recognition Programs:

  • Awards Management: Facilitate the process of recognizing distinguished alums and faculty through awards like the Inlustrate Orbem, Alumni Distinguished Faculty Chairs, and the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Alumni Relations Manager

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 5+ years of experience managing an Alumni Relations program, preferably in independent schools or a combination of equivalent experience, education, and training.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in:

    • Using data to support effective decision-making.

    • Managing data and leveraging the functionality of the CRM system/fundraising database.

    • Understanding of the donor life cycle.

    • Reading financial reports, analyzing data, and preparing projections and revenue reports.

  • Or a combination of equivalent experience, education, and training.

 

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, capable of building rapport and working effectively with board members, employees, volunteers, consultants, and donors/prospects.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to relate to diverse individuals with varying abilities to give is essential.

  • Highly organized team player who can set and meet deadlines.

  • Energetic, self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable.

  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a small, hands-on work environment.

  • A team player with an attitude of service and the ability to motivate others.

  • Computer fluency in MS Office, google suite, web applications, and knowledge about the role of technology and electronic communication in fundraising.

  • Performs work with a constant awareness of improving processes necessary for positive growth.

  • Adheres to the highest level of professionalism.

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.

  • Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.

  • Frequently talk and hear.

  • Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.

  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.

  • Long or odd hours, as needed.
