Job Description:
The Director of Alumni Relations is the face of Alumni Relations and oversees the planning and execution of a comprehensive Alumni Relationship program designed to increase alumni engagement and support. Works strategically with colleagues whose primary focus is fund raising.
Responsibilities:
Plans, manages, and evaluates all on and off campus alumni activities, especially all aspects of internal and external alumni events, Homecoming, Alumni of the Year, Heritage Students, Campus Update Sessions to boards, and reunions.
Strategically oversees the development of an annual work plan for alumni initiatives; working closely with alumni networks.
Identifies potential vehicles and activities for the engagement of Alumni through affinity groups.
Provides leadership and direction to the Alumni Board. Coordinates the nomination and election of board members.
Works closely with campus-wide offices to seek ways to involve alumni in the life of the University (mentorship, internship, panel discussions etc.)
In conjunction with the Office of Marketing/Communications, is actively involved in intentional, multi-channel communication with alumni.
Develops and manages the departmental budget, alumni correspondence, and evaluates events.
* Develop a Parent's Council.

Education/Skills Requirements:

  • A high degree of emotional intelligence.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Ability to travel and work occasional weekends as required
  • Minimum of two years in fundraising, volunteer management, alumni programming, or related work, preferably at a small liberal arts institution.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking experience a plus.
  • Event planning background very helpful. Organizational and multi-tasking skills imperative.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with new media.
  • Evidence of strategic thinking.
  • Must have excellent relationship-building skills as well as be detail oriented and accurate in planning and implementing tasks.
  • Ability to establish cooperative, effective working relationships with volunteers, donors, faculty and staff.
