JOB TITLE: Director of Agency Advancement

POSITION GRADE: 86

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Agency Advancement

SUPERVISOR: President & CEO

FLSA: Exempt

SALARY RANGE: $62,790 - $106,834 (commensurate with education and experience)

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the President & CEO, the Director of Agency Advancement leads the planning and execution of a comprehensive development program aligned with Villa of Hope Mission, Vision, Values, and strategic initiatives. This position leads and supervises the Agency Advancement team and functional areas of: major gifts solicitation and overall donor cultivation; annual campaigns; special events planning; grants writing and administration; and marketing/communications. The Director of Agency Advancement is a member of the agency Operational Leadership Team (OLT) and an ad hoc member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Cultivates the desired organizational culture of integrated Sanctuary Model and DEI&B in all aspects of essential functions and performance of duties.

 Maintains confidentiality and security for all donor and staff related materials and/or records. Ensures full participation of Agency Advancement staff in compliance and performance quality improvement activities.

 Establishes a current and sometimes multi-year strategic plan and budget for the Agency Advancement department and annual fundraising goals. Regularly tracks and reports on performance to plan, including analysis of return on investment for each and all activities.

 Collaborates with the ELT to initiate, cultivate, and manage community partnerships that lead to increased revenue and resources for the agency as a whole as well as the Agency Advancement department objectives.

 Represents Agency Advancement and the Agency as a whole on relevant boards, committees, and task forces and at external speaking engagements, conference panels, and trainings to advance the Villa and Community Mission/Vision.

 Board of Directors:

o Builds relationships with Villa of Hope Board members and engages them in all aspects of Agency Advancement activities.

o Agency staff member on the Nominating and Agency Advancement Committees, including collaboration with the chairs of these commitees.

o Oversees the recruitment of members for the Young Professionals Board and leads the Development Associate in training and support of the YPB.

 Major Gifts & Donor Cultivation:

o Researches, identifies, and cultivates relationships with potential new major gift donors.

o Continuously cultivates relationships with current high-level donors, including regular and frequent contacts.

o Maintains and oversees the Champion of Hope Society program.

o Designs and operates a donor stewardship program including individual stewardship strategies for each donor as well as a system for private and public acknowledgements to thank donors.

 Annual Appeal Campaign:

o Collaborates with the Agency Advancement Team on design, planning, and execution of the Annual Appeal Campaign. Reports on the impact of the Annual Appeal Campaign.

o Plans and executes capital campaigns when needed and assigned.

 Special Events:

o Leads and collaborates with the Development Associate to execute best-in-class special events to support all aspects of Agency Advancement. Currently, these include: Portraits of Hope Gala; Tournament of Hope (Golf Tournament); and the Annual Donor Recognition Event.

o Leads and oversees solicitation of sponsorships, in-kind donations, prizes/auction items, participants, volunteers, etc. for special events.

o Evaluates and reports on return of investment of special events, using these analyses to inform future special events planning and execution.

o In Collaboration with the Agency Advancement Team, plans and executes other agency special events as assigned (ex: ribbon-cutting ceremonies; new program opening events; etc.).

 Grant Writing & Administration:

o Leads and collaborates with the Grants & Contracts Administrator to support the essential functions of their role, including: proactive research and identification of new funding opportunities for the agency in alignment with agency and programs strategy and operational needs; grant writing/submissions; other writing/applications (ex: program license changes); and administration of awarded grants to ensure all metrics and reporting are completed and reported as required by the terms of each funder.

 Marketing & Communications:

o Leads and collaborates with the Director of Marketing & Communications to support the essential functions of their role, including: developing and deploying the internal and external marketing and communications plans to support all aspects of Agency branding and Agency Advancement functions. Currently, these include but are not limited to: BluePrints; Hope Notes; Annual Report; Annual Campaign; Villa of Hope website and social media presence; graphic design and video projects.

POSITION SPECIFICS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to essential functions of the role. CFRE preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in an Agency Advancement or development function, including partnering with senior leadership and direct experience with the essential functions listed above, most critically the gift solicitation process and donor stewardship.

Skills:

 Exemplary interpersonal skills, including proficiency in verbal and written communications

 Outstanding self-awareness, emotional intelligence, judgement, sensitivity, and discretion.

 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications. Experience with Greater Giving and/or Raiser’s Edge software applications preferred.

 The employee must be able occasionally lift and/or move, push or pull up to fifty- (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel: Valid NYS Driver’s License and reliable transportation are required for this position. Travel is primarily local, with occasional travel outside of area as needed.
