The Director (Functional Leader) of Aerodynamics and Thermal Systems Engineering on the Vehicle Engineering team is the technical leadership voice for all Aerodynamics and Thermal topics for the Company, and leads and directs the following engineering teams through the product lifecycle:

• Aerodynamics and Thermal Systems Integration and Analysis (Architecture, Simulation, Vehicle Testing, and more)
• Thermal Subsystem and Component Development (Laboratory Testing and more)
• Liquid Cooling Systems (Pumps, Radiators, Heat Exchangers, and more)
• Refrigerant Systems (Compressors, Chillers, Evaporators, and more)
• Air Systems (Fans, HVAC, and more

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, manufacturing, testing, and validation teams on the complete life cycle of the project through product launch, and implementation of lessons learned on subsequent products (cradle-to-cradle responsibility).

• Apply fundamental physics to lead and direct progression of design maturity from initial concept, to product launch, to next concept
• Lead definition of appropriate system-level engineering targets to meet function, quality and attribute requirements of the Vehicle Program
• Lead development and verification of Vehicle/System Design Specifications incorporating company/industry/regulatory standards, test procedures and material specifications
• Ensure system meets targets at the vehicle and system levels
• Review and approve 2D/3D CAD, 1D/3D analytical models and physical testing results
• Lead and direct resolution of design, attribute and packaging incompatibilities through deep collaboration with cross-functional teams
• Drive thorough development of the Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) including both in-house and supplier testing plans, and ensure sign-off tests are completed on schedule
• Drive troubleshooting and resolution of all validation issues
• Support the Purchasing team in sourcing and RFQ activities
• Support vehicle launch and pre-production builds (both virtual and physical)

• BSME, BSMET, BS Automotive Engineering or related degree
• 10+ years automotive, or related, industry in mechanical, design or product development experience
• 5+ years leading and managing engineering teams
• Excellent communications skills with demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
• Strong grasp of fluid and solid mechanics fundamentals
• Proven experience in development and production execution of Thermal Systems is required
• Working knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, DVP&R, DFSS, DFA, DFM, APQP, VAVE and problem resolution (8D, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.)
• Engineering knowledge of defined requirements and validation of component(s) / system(s) design, function, performance, production & manufacturing requirements, testing and validation

Preferred Qualifications

• MSME, MSMET, MS Automotive Engineering or related degree
• Expertise in executing the complete Systems Engineering V-Model for Aerodynamics and Thermal Systems in automotive or commercial vehicles
• Expertise using 1D and 3D simulation tools to model Aerodynamics and Thermal Systems
• Expertise in OEM and supplier assembly and launch operations
