The Director, Laboratory and Quality is responsible for successfully directing and managing the day-to-day operations of wineries quality assurance and Quality control laboratories. Working with internal and external partners to ensure the highest standards of quality in performance of analysis, research and development, communication, and engagement with key stakeholders. The role is a key member of the site and winemaking leadership teams supporting all goals and objectives ensuring delivery of the highest level of wine quality, accountability, adherence to ISO, GMP programs and employee engagement.
What we will ask you to do:
- Oversee all laboratory activities associated with wine analysis at the Geyserville Winery.
- Oversee development, writing, updating and maintaining laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Manage analysis protocols of routine lab activities and personnel in the required analysis and evaluation of wines through various testing methods, including but not limited to chemical physical, microbiological, and sensory to ensure optimal quality and stability of wines from grape to finished bottle product.
- Develop and maintain plans for labor staffing, training and cross training matrix to meet production schedules.
- Oversee timely and accurate communication of data with winemaking, cellar, bottling and vineyard/grower relation teams.
- Oversee procurement of laboratory consumables and equipment, including vendor interaction, equipment selection, shipping and receiving of consumables and equipment.
- Oversee development and maintenance of site finished goods, production quality control program and protocols, including but not limited to incoming materials inspection, wine analysis pre and post bottling, line quality control checks.
- Ensure that all quality control procedures and documentation are in compliance and up to date with guidelines or regulatory requirements, TTB, HACCP, GMP, ISO, etc.
What you will need:
- Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Enology or Chemistry, or other related field.
- Strong knowledge of winemaking processes, laboratory techniques and Quality control principles.
- Minimum 7 years of management wine lab/industry experience.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Good computer skills with Microsoft Navision experience preferable.
- Proficient in using laboratory equipment and data tracking tools.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certifications related to wine production.
- Detail-oriented and analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.

- The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $125,000.
