The Director, Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for leadership and accountability of the Infection Prevention and Control Department at Nemours Children's Health, Florida. This role designs, implements, and maintains the Infection Control Program at the Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida and practice sites across the state. They oversee program activities including strategic and operational planning and performance of the Infection Prevention and Control risk assessments and plans for all Florida sites and collaborates with their counterparts in DV. The Director leads the infection prevention team and works closely with other members of the Quality and Safety Department.
Leadership:
- The Director is responsible for creating the department vision and setting programmatic goals. They develop and implement strategic and operational plans, ensuring regulatory compliance and serve as a partner and expert consultant within all levels of the organization. This position has responsibility for the department's operational, administrative, and fiscal goals, including identifying and proposing resource needs and recruiting and retaining a high-performance team. The Director collaborates directly with associates, executives, and physician and nursing leaders across all sites. They model and establish a culture that reflects Nemours values and standards of behavior.
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):
- The Director leads the department in creating and maintaining a program for surveillance and reporting of communicable diseases, healthcare associated infections, and health risks from the built environment, including but not limited to air, water, and surface management. They supervise and mentor a team of infection preventionists. The Director provides programmatic leadership to support in collaboration with the medical director and external stakeholders to identify areas of risk for endemic and epidemic HAIs and from the built environment to patients, visitors, and associates. The Director supports the IPC staff in the coordination of outbreak investigations and emerging preparedness response.
Compliance
- The Director forges and facilitates relationships with stakeholders throughout Nemours to carry out IPC program activities. They lead the program and provide consultation to Quality and Safety and hospital leadership to identify risks, facilitate policy adherence and ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, AHCA) across all sites in the state of Florida.
Mentoring
- The Director coaches and mentor's members of the IPC team to enhance their professional knowledge. They set job requirements and goals for each member and provide training opportunities to achieve desired levels of competency. The Director maintains personal competency with IPC best practices, guidelines, and requirements.
Financial Management
- The Director has overall accountability for financial targets established in the annual departmental budget. They establish and monitor productivity metrics to ensure that the team is following organizational policies and procedures.
Operations/Strategic Planning
- In collaboration with Nemours Children's Health, Florida operations and clinical leadership, as well as Quality and Safety program leadership, the Director evaluates indicators, and process and outcome metrics to set and implement Nemours strategic priorities to improve infection prevention outcomes. They facilitate prioritization of improvement activities with system leadership. The Director collaborates with hospital leaders and process owners to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
Research
- The Director identifies, leads, or participates in research activities related to IPC. They collaborate in the presentation and publication of program data at the local and national conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications-
Bachelor's degree
Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology or other health related field
Advanced or Masters degree preferred
Certification in infection Prevention is required (CIC)
3 plus years relevant experience
