This is a newly created role at the HQ of a fast paced, high growth SaaS business. Backed by Level Equity and Aquiline Capital Partners, Planet DDS has had a strong track record of both organic growth of its core product lines as well as successful acquisitions. As a newly created role within the company, this position will be instrumental in continuing this success by collaborating closely with our executive team and departmental leaders.
(This is a hybrid role out of our Newport Beach, CA office.)
Job Responsibilities
The Director – Head of Legal will play a key role in supporting the legal needs of Planet DDS. This person will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to the company's leadership team and key stakeholders. This person will play a crucial role in driving a range of activities, including providing legal counsel, contracting, strategic problem-solving, board communications, and operational support. This role will also be involved with evaluating corporate M&A opportunities. The ideal candidate will have experience in the SaaS industry, be able to work collaboratively with other departments, and have excellent communication and analytical skills. This role reports to the CFO.
- Provide legal advice on a wide range of legal matters, including intellectual property, data privacy, contract negotiation, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including customer agreements, vendor contracts, and other legal documents.
- Develop and maintain legal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations applicable to the SaaS industry.
- Manage and oversee external legal counsel as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Sales, Marketing, and Product, to ensure legal compliance and mitigate legal risk.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in relevant laws and regulations, and advise the company's leadership team on potential impacts.
- Run legal due diligence during M&A and manage post-close activities
- Oversee the corporate structure, cap table, minutes, etc.
Job Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and current bar admission in good standing.
- 5+ years of experience as an attorney, with at least 2 years of experience in the SaaS industry.
- Strong knowledge of intellectual property, data privacy, and contract law.
- Experience with negotiating complex commercial transactions, including SaaS and software licensing agreements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located, and is subject to change based on work location.
