Director, Grateful Patient and Family Program
Office of Development
UTHealth Houston is seeking a Director, Grateful Patient and Family Program to oversee the implementation and management of UTHealth Houston's relationship-based Grateful Patient and Family Program. The program's goals are to build a pipeline of patient prospects and philanthropic revenue, engage physicians in the Grateful Patient process, and assist in transforming the philanthropic culture within the UTHealth Houston clinical environment.
The Office of Development advances the mission of UTHealth Houston by seeking and securing philanthropic support for its programs in service to students and community. The office comprises four giving programs-Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Major and Principal Gifts, and Gift Planning. Working with the Development team, UT Physicians, and the executive leadership team, the Director will develop goals, training and educational initiatives, priorities, and success measures for Grateful Patient and Family giving.
The Director, Grateful Patient and Family Program will serve as the face of the Office of Development with a keen ability to develop lasting relationships, engaging and connecting with donors at all levels. Although not a fundraising opportunity, familiarity or experience in fundraising would be beneficial. Candidates should have at least seven years of relevant work experience with at least five years of experience in medicine, health care, or science fields preferred. Candidates must possess an executive presence, flexibility, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Develops a comprehensive Grateful Patient and Family Program strategy from entry-level gifts to the cultivation and solicitation of major and principal gifts by members of the UTHealth Houston Development staff.
  • Develops close working partnerships with faculty physicians, administrative leaders, and clinical staff to encourage a relationship of trust and collaboration with the Office of Development for the identification of major and principal gift prospects.
  • Plans, develops, and implements training initiatives for faculty physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff directly involved in patient relations tied to a successful culture of Grateful Patient and Family fundraising.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with the patient navigator program staff facilitating vital information in compliance with HIPAA laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates with faculty physicians to identify funding needs.
  • Develops systems for tracking the impact of Grateful Patientsand Family efforts on fundraising revenue.
  • Participates in regular University development meetings as directed. Attends events/special functions as requested.
  • May manage Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection; hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient; assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.
Minimum Experience:
Seven (7) years of relevant work experience required. Five (5) years in medicine, health care, or science fields preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive:
This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
